Plastic milk crate makes the 20 lb tank very stable.

I use an 11-lb bottle (the tall/skinny version). On my manual slide tray it will clear the frame rails and I bungee it to a 5-gal bucket full of cleaning stuff for extra stability. The 20-lb bottles are too heavy for me to wrestle in and out so went with the 11.

We also have a GMG Davey Crockett pellet smoker that I really love, but for me it's a little heavy and awkward for in and out when traveling, so only take it when gonna be set up in a spot for awhile. We're taking a summer long trip to PNW starting in a couple of weeks and will take the Weber Q1200 and the 11-lb bottle instead of the smoker and bags of pellets. Not as much fun to cook on or as versatile, but does a great job, is much more portable, and easy to find fuel.

We have a 20# bottle in a plastic milk crate, the milk crate keeps the bottle upright and the square sides allow me to store it along the walls of the basement. We use it to run our BBQ as well as a fire pit.

I carry a few of the small disposable bottles for emergency use , should the 20# bottle run dry in middle of cooking supper!

If we were only running a BBQ we would likely run with just the small disposable bottles, but the fire pit has been well used on cooler evenings of extended Happy Hours! Well worth the effort of carrying propane on board!

Met many friends along the way because of it and many of them have gotten their own after enjoying ours.

We would not be without it and pretty sure it will get a workout in the evenings at Big Sky in few weeks!
