Has anybody tried a mount for a computer

I'm looking at a mount for my wife's computer while going down the road. Has anyone tried one of the type of mounts that bolts to the floor and allows a laptop to sit within reach of the co-pilot?

Ram is a popular mount maker and we have them in our ambulances.

I prefer to keep mine in my lap though when I am in the passenger seat.

I had one in a truck 20 years ago before small cell phones and tablets were a thing. At that point the mount was nice for running a mapping program plugged into my handheld GPS. A mount was nice for that.

I have three ram mounts in my RV and one in my pickup. As a two way radio dealer for many years we installed hundreds of them in public safety vehicles. They are well built and very adaptable. I had one on my mobility scooter too.

A laptop with a big wide screen is very good for co-pilots while in motion. In addition, mine sits on the solid countertops near my dinette and beside the fireplace cabinet and has ridden many thousands of miles otherwise unsecured (except its own rubber feet) without any problems. The problem with fixed mounts is that they are then permanent, and for every hour that they are a real help in a coach, there are two hours where they are an unnecessary hindrance, in my experience. Your experience may differ...

Oh, and an iPAD with the right software, is even easier to use while traveling and can be stored more easily than either of the above options.

Now I know this isn't in the driving area but I have a large monitor mounted like this on the dinette...I do also have several ram mounts for phones and iPads in the driving area. I have always liked the ram mount products!

Ditto on RAM Mounts. They build quality equipment.

DW prefers a lap table much like this one. Altra Furniture Cushioned Laptop Carrying Case; Black Finish, BLACK | With a table she can quickly change between a laptop, I-Pad, or notebook device. (How did we ever get down the road before we had all these electronic gadgets?)

For over 14 years I have traveled with a PC tower sitting on the floor under the kitchen table. It sits on one of those rubber shelf liners close to the outside wall.
Never have tied it down in all that time and it never has fallen over.
Maybe the air bag ride helps on that?

The 22" monitor also rides on top of the table and it is never tied down.
One laptop rides on the dash for VMSpc, one Laptop rides on a table beside the driver seat S & T GPS.
Both not tied down and sitting on rubber shelf liner.
One iPad 2 CoPilot GPS fastened to drivers side window with Ram suction cup and mount.

We use an Air Desk. Very sturdy and stable. Sits between the seats when traveling and goes in the basement when camped.

Stop in at your local Cop Shop and check out the mounts they use for their in-car computers...... Unless, of course, there is a warrant out for your arrest.

(True story: One of my troopers brought he Girlfriend in to show her the Post, and of course the Dispatch/radio room, he handed me her license,,,,, She was a "Keeper" legally speaking... However as a girlfriend.. His comment was "I loose more girlifriends that way".)

If you note a lack of names.. Well NDA's apply. so names have been deleted to protect the poster.

I used a Ram mount for my iPad. The suction cup fits nicely in the tray above the drawer and doesn't interfere with either of the cup holders. The Navigation and the Rear View screens are unobstructed while the iPad is easily accessible. It works great!
