Has anyone put on locking fuel caps?

Do you have a part number and source?

I was looking for the locking caps because I thought someone drained my tank for me. I just happened to ask the park host if they'd had a power outage in the last few weeks, and sure enough, while I was out of town. Well, the auto Gen saved my frig items, but it was hot and the A/C was running the whole time. Now my tank is well below E. One more item for the factory to fix, the Gen low fuel shut off didn't work..........

Just my thoughts on locking fuel caps: Nice people don't steal fuel; those that do might just as well poke a hole in the bottom of your tank to get at it.

I would be happy with fuel cap retention lanyards, this is the first motor vehicle I have owned in the last 20 years that does not have one. The second. One is my new 2016.5 Polaris slingshot

I don't think you need them. If your parking in a place where people are going to siphon your fuel there are allot of other things they can easily get at that are far more costly.

The gen fuel pick-up in the tank is supposed to be at the 1/4 mark so I'm surprised that it didn't stop itself.

Sorry but sometimes I think folks give too much credit to would be bad guys.

I'm not sure they are going to see a locking gas cap and then rummage around for something to poke a hole in a tank and try to catch the gas in a container they can then haul to their vehicle.
Better yet, let's walk next door to the pickup that doesn't have a locking cap and get their gas.

Most thieves are inherently lazy or they'd have a job and not be stealing. They go for the easy haul. Generally any barking dog (even an obvious small one) isn't worth the effort. They'll go next door where there isn't a dog to raise the alarm.

I've been using locking gas caps since the big gas shortage in the 70's and have never lost an ounce. Unfortunately in the past other neighbors have. I also keep my doors locked.

Someone stealing fuel is not the only reason I have locking caps, kids could put dirt in, a golf ball, sugar, or any other foreign material.

X2, that is why I have them. Got the ones from Amazon, put keys on the ignition key ring, and you will not forget them.

Assuming your EC has two tank pickups--one for genset and one for engine--the may have reversed the connections--oops....Have you ever run the engine below 1/4 tank?

I once drove away after fueling and not putting the fuel cap back on. Fortunately I only drove a few miles before I parked and saw fuel seeping underneath the coach. I now have a locking cap and the key is with the ignition key so if I forget to put the cap on I can't start the coach!

BTW Dan who do you drive 757s for?

Geoff

Geoff,

I used to fly 757's for FedEx Canada. Retired 2 years ago after 25 years of flying FedEx freight across Canada for the Company that had the FedEx contract in Canada.
