Has anyone seen this?

After being home for a month I went to run the rig today. Boy was I surprised to see the Allison gear selector pad lit up with the cross symbols as shown in the picture. There was no key in the ignition but the symbols were there. I put the key in and noticed the yellow check engine icon did not extinguish so I checked the diagnostic code...it says
spn 1081 fmi 19
I didn't try to start the coach...thought I'd ask here firstly!

John, I found this thread. It might be low coolant. Not sure.

Hope someone more familiar with this chimes in.

Thanks!...I see these posts are from 2015 . I guess I was hoping a better solution has been discovered then to just ignore it and it will go away...
I am unable to access your first suggested post as it opens a post about GPS problems. Are you suggesting that the Allison keypad icons are somehow connected to low engine coolant?

If I remember correctly the shift control is not seeing the transmission control on the data link wires. It may not crank since it does not know if it is in neutral.

John, My 14 spent the first 5,000 miles with the 1081 code for no reason. It is a bogus code and would sometimes last a couple of hundred miles. Finally they came out with the Spartan/Cummins update, mine required both. There were 13 Cummins update that were needed on a brand new engine.
There are two things you can try, a 12v reboot and also a chassis reboot by pulling the main chassis fuse in the round Spartan fuse box back it the engine battery compartment. It's the pink 35 amp fuse. The Allison shift pad can use the reboot....it looks like the batteries might have gotten low while in storage? You can also try the ignition 3 times as mentioned in the linked posts, but an update will probably still be needed. Driving with the check engine light on for several hundred miles was nerve racking as hell. It took Spartan a year to come up with the software fix. It was a problem with the Cummins ECM taking with the Spartan digital dash and why I was told both updated needed to be done...it did work, 50,000 additional miles without the 1081 code.

From that code, I am guessing your coach has never had any of the ECM updates. If you are lucky "some" of the Cummins Coach Care shops do have the Spartan update software, my Cummins is a truck shop and didn't have it. Mine was done at Entegra when they had the Spartan shop.

The display is showing what they call "Cat eyes" and I agree with "Cat" that keypad is not seeing data.

Thanks for the replies!
This morning I found the "cats eyes" on the Allison selector but I started the engine anyway after waiting for 5 minutes for the yellow check engine icon to disappear (it never did) the coach started and ran as normal and the Allison selector display went to NN while idling in the garage. I shut it down and the display went black as usual....I thought I'd gotten lucky, but not so! A few hours later the cats eyes were back. So I unplugged the shore power, pulled the dash fuse and shut down the 12volt power (thanks Brobox!) I Left it like that for about an hour then enabled everything again.....cats eyes are back and code remains. Guess I'll have to call cummins next.
Thanks again!

John, if I am not mistaken, I think there is an Allison fuse in the round fuse container also, might pull that. If the CEL stayed on the update will correct that. Cummins can clear the code and the engine light (been there) but if the Spartan update is not done, it come back.

One thing that might be worth investing in is a code reader. You can clear the code yourself and it might give the Allison code as well. Cummins will charge the cost of the reader just to clear the CEL and bogus 1081 code. However I would still have the updates done. My fuel mileage improved after I had the updates run. https://www.ebay.com/itm/12451239034...3ABFBMlK_MtMFf

There also seems to be some problems with the Allison power wire coming from the battery. Some builders have the power wire come directly from the battery which is exposed to corrosion in the battery box. You may want to just check for small gauge wire connected to the battery post for corrosion.

If the cat eyes (aka snake eyes) persists, even after verifying 12+ VDC on each of the feeds to the Allison ECU, and you are unable to get DIAGNOSTIC CODES using the Allison shift pad, next step is to call John:

Your memory is spot on! As part of yesterday's experiment I did indeed pull the pink 30 amp fuse in the round fuse box in the back of the rig as you had suggested. That's what it took to stop power to the Allison selector. I've been seeing posts about code readers and now I may have a reason to get one.

Thanks
