Heat Block??

Has anyone used Heat Block on their roofs? I have a friend that used it on his 2012 Newell in 2014. I looked at it today and it looks brand new says he never has had to re-caulk the roof since he applied to roof. He put 4 coats on and he swears that it works.

Is this the Heat Block product that you're referring to: https://www.amazon.com/HEAT-BLOCK-Re.../dp/B07DX87NDW

Interesting.

Take care,
Stu

Heat Block??

Stu, that is the product that my friend put on his coach. We are both in Ohio now at the same campground and our coaches are right next to each other. I got on my roof yesterday with a heat gun and the temperature on my roof was 112 degrees. We got up on his roof and the temperature was 77 degrees.

He applied 4 coats in 2014 and his roof looks like it is brand new. He says in the summer his coach stays cool and the AC doesn’t run as much. I am going to order 5 gallons and give it a try.

That particular product is strangely, no longer in stock. Be careful, the other product that appears to be made by the same company makes no claim about reflectivity and is available seems to be intended for a very different purpose. The other product is about $150 for 5 gallons.

No longer in stock does not mean no longer available; however, the price has really jumped. One gallon is now $100, and you can still get a five gallon bucket directly from them, but now at $300. I haven't used it and don't have any experience with it, but you do have me interested...

Your roof is already reflective white, painting white on white isn't going to accomplish anything. That type of white rubberized paint is for dark colored roofs, metal for example.

Hello Larry, do you know if your friend applied it over the self leveling sealant or just around it?

The 2014’s used a different sealant than later years. I’d be surprised if it sticks to silicone based sealants on a 2016 or newer coach’s.

JMO .... it doesn't make a lot of sense to me that this will make a wonderous difference in heat absorption.... I have not tried it, but unless it has some rally mysterious substance that makes it reflect even more light than plain white paint makes it reflect, it doesnt make much sense that three coats of it are going to be any better than one coat of it. But, who knows. Now if it is designed to go onto metal roofs of out buildings such as sheds or barns which would be black otherwise or galvanized steel roofs, then I can see a huge difference... Psychologists would call the tendency to think that something is really good after spending the money and time to make some change... is called "confirmation bias" .... the more money that it costs to make a change, the greater the perceived improvement... As in "This Cornerstone that I just bought is a thousand percent nicer than my old Anthem.... " --

Who knows. 10 reports of great improvement will make me more convinced (but the bias would operate in all of the attempters....

So now the question becomes, do you notice a difference?
