Heat Control Mods

I had two minor issues with heat that I corrected.

When living in the coach in 10 degree weather I found the coach to be very comfortable and was impressed with Entegra's insulation, especially after experiencing cold temps in our previous coach. However, I did have one problem. The Pex water line that runs from the fresh water tank to the water pump inlet runs to a 3 way Sharkbite valve that allows water to flow to the pump from the tank or from the winterizing antifreeze siphon hose. The third position drains the fresh tank by allowing the water to flow down out the floor through a short 2" piece of Pex tubing. The problem is that the cold temps migrated up that short pipe and froze up the valve so that it blocked all flow of water to the water pump from the fresh tank. The basement heat worked great and everything else was nice and warm but this valve was mounted right on the basement floor so that it could drain the tank and had it not been for that short drain tube sticking out the floor it would have been fine.

So I added some 12 volt heat pads that were designed for the Pex tubing from , who also makes the heat pads for beneath tanks. I then added a digital temperature controller to control the pipe heaters so that they only operated when the temps dropped to a certain point. I found a pair of them on Amazon at , which worked great for my second project as well.

The second issue was that our mid-bath had an Aqua-Hot heat exchanger, which was a good thing. But it was connected to thermostat zone 1 so whenever we needed heat in the front of the coach the heat exchanger in the small mid-bath also kicked in, which made the bath quite warm. I added my second temperature controller in the mid-bath and connected it's contacts to the fan motor on the heat exchanger in the mid-bath. I placed the small temperature probe right beneath the vanity top where it wouldn't be seen. Now whenever the temp in the mid-bath gets to a certain level the fan on the mid-bath's heat exchanger won't run and the bath no longer gets excessively hot.

I mounted both heat temperature controllers in the mid-bath by the thermostat and G5 fuse panel. I also added a pair of micro rocker switches to switch them off if desired.
