Many thousands have become iRV2 Supporters.
I have had no issues ever. My secure accounts are very protected and I monitor them very closely. And I have not had any sponsor contact, as they are fully insulated from the Sponsor process. It is SAFE!
You can proceed without fear, my friend.
Please contact the iRV2 Mods. They can explain better how secure it is!
Put a few coins to work for a good cause.
I hope other members can sound off here!

If you are concerned about that, since they only accept Paypal, you can pay with a credit card instead of direct access to any bank account. If you have one of those one time usage options, that would eliminate any auto renewal the following year. Or some other variation that one can do with CC's to prevent usage in a year from now (expiration date most likely).

You could just use a photo hosting site like smugmug, photobucket, google+ or flicker for example. Most are free and you just post the photo using the "insert image" feature.

I need pictures. This mod is high on my to-do list.

I will look into my current DropBox automatic upload and see if photos can easily be linked to posts. I take a photo at the MH and it's ready to be posted instantly. If not, it looks like my "how to" photo posting days may be over. I have done the photbucket thing in he past....unless it's changed, too much of a hassle for me. Sign in, upload, download, link and wait for the photo to be converted.

I try to help others as easy as I can, not make an entire evening of it.

Hopefully I can continue to help others soon, but so far there has not been a happy medium. I am willing to pay for an increased attachment fee, but not with and open end bank account, year after year. That didn't too work to well for the thousands of Target Shoppers.

You can put your card into Paypal, complete the transaction, and change it to an expired card number, or close the account.
Perhaps a pre-paid card?

I am not going to play games trying to post photos that hopefully help others.

If the sponsors that receive all the benefits of the number of hits those posts generate for them cannot allow for additional photo memory........ why should I continue if those photos cannot be posted?

MH's and improvements are a hobby for me, not a business. If I can help share, great, if not I guess I have been spoken too, or not, as there has been no decision from IRV2.

Since you do not want to become a supporter, your only option is;

Quote:
To include an image that is not uploaded as an attachment and is located on another website, you can do so by copying the full URL to the image, (not the page on which the image is located), and either pressing the 'Insert Image' icon or by typing after it, ensuring that you do not have any spaces before or after the URL of the image.

Or, how about changing the payment option? I wouldn't mind paying $15/year since I get a lot out of the forum, but like Chuck, I don't do recurring automatic payments. Add an option for $15/year without automatic renewals, and you'd have at least two new paying supporters.

Sorry, there is no other option planned for payment.

I have no problem supporting, but not for life with an open payment. My mother just passed away and you cannot believe what I went through for "automatic payments" to be canceled. What a hassle! Not even going there again.

Jersimon said it and IRV2 has spoken. I hope others will share their ideas. Dusty56 is a great one for ideas. Hope he continues to share until he runs out of memory.

This is weird. I have a website hosted, with as many features as I want, including a complete forum. My hosting service has no limits - none. No limits on pictures, storage space, users, bandwidth, anything. And I pay something like $10/month for the hosting service. The difference is that I'm not trying to make money from my website from service or ads (but there is nothing stopping from doing so if I wanted to).

It's people who make this forum great, people who ask questions. People who answer them and spend their time caring about problems that other people have. If pictures help, great. Limitations in pictures, etc only limits the usefulness of the forum, and if push came to shove, we have the ability to go elsewhere.

It sounds like spending $15/yr lessens the limits on pictures, but does it eliminate the limit? Why should we pay to make the service more useful, and in doing so drive more web traffic, yielding better advertising rates to the web site owners? It should be the other way round - IRV2 should pay really active users to stay active - that would really drive web traffic.

Here's another model. A website that I use for stock market research allows anyone to post (although articles are subject to editorial review). If an article is widely read, the author is paid a small sum per view. Very popular authors can almost make a small living at it! This drives web traffic since the popular authors have a wide following. Paying these authors keeps them writing. This drives more traffic - a virtuous circle.

Excellent logic. It is posters like Chuck that create the meaningful content and encourage people (and their eyeballs on the paid ads) to return. You could make the argument that he should be drawing a salary.

I think the IRV2 model is just different and yes, they should modernize the payment system but their costs are probably higher than you might imagine. They're currently offering 7+ terabytes of free space to all 148,000+ members. Those that contribute the $15 get 10 times the space for pictures (500 MB) but even that will be eaten up over time for prolific posters. Not sure what would happen if a supporting member used up that space. With 3,000+ concurrent users happening often, bandwidth must also be a factor in costs. And I don't know but perhaps administrators are paid positions.

Are there free hosting sites (or $10/month) that would support a similar service with similar resourcing requirements and provide the same level of support and content management?
