How much fuel do I have?

100 gallon tank. When I get a little below 1/4 tank my "low fuel" light and message illuminate. I knew it was going to be close to get to my desired station but my message center would no longer tell me how many miles to empty, just I had low fuel. Have any of you run out of fuel? Was your indicator on E? or below E? Any way to estimate how much fuel you have if you don't notice when the low fuel light comes on? Or do I just try and do the math when I estimate I'm at a 1/8 tank? FYI - I don't normally play chicken with my fuel gauge but for some reason on this trip I've had my low fuel light come on twice so far.

Don't know answer to your question.

If you have a diesel you do not want to run out of fuel. Sometime (most) it is not fun trying to get going again. The injector pump is cooled by the fuel that is returned to the tank. Low on fuel the temp of fuel will be hotter.

We recently ran our Ď14 Aspire, 100 gal. tank down to 1/4 on our gauge. Took 70 gal. to fill.
I donít like doing that often/ever and donít trust the gauges. We were on relatively flat interstate with multiple fuel options en route.
Really donít want to risk, or pull sludge, nor find out.

As soon as my gauge gets lower than 1/2, I’m looking for fuel. When my gauge reads around 3/8 full I can only fit 45 gallons of fuel in the tank.

If we ever upgrade, the 150 gal. tank would be nice, but so far the 100 gal. gives me time to take a break, dog walk, lunch. I am guessing the guys with 150ís stop as often, just not for fuel.

Definitely. I've got 150gal tank in my 2014 Anthem and have to stop before I need fuel. My hips can only take so much time in the driver's seat.

Later...

Wow, 100 gallon tank. That seems small, especially if you have a diesel genny, and/or aquahot.
I will echo the sentiment of those that say not to run a diesel out of fuel. That is some bad juju you want to avoid.
I have a 200 gallon tank, and half is where I'm thinking about getting some fuel. This gives me plenty of time and distance left in the tank so that I'm not pressured into buying overpriced, or sketchy fuel.

I've got a 128 gallon tank but don't rely on the fuel gauge, it is not very accurate. Instead I use the Silverleaf monitor which has a fuel/trip monitor which is extremely accurate, usually within a couple gallons when I stop and fill up.

I usually will fill up at ~1/2 tank, but will drive further if I know there's cheaper diesel ahead (I use gasbuddy to plan my fuel stops) but will sometime push it a little further

I know that my generator will be out of fuel once I've used ~100 gallons of fuel so I want to make sure I have enough diesel in the tank to run the generator for a day just in case I get broke down on the side of the road.

On my last trip on the last leg home I figured I had enough fuel to get me to the Sam's club that is on my way home. This station usually has the cheapest fuel price and I ended up pumping 100 gallons, but I was within 25 miles of home so not worried about having to spend the night in the RV stranded.

Iím guessing you donít have the digital dash in your Insignia. My readout of fuel used is pretty accurate, although generator and aqua hot usage can have an affect. Try a Scan Gauge. Relatively inexpensive and monitor fuel usage as well as a number of other parameters. I put one on my Cornerstone and use it to monitor HP and other parameters the Digital Dash doesnít.

2012 Aspire with 100 gallon tank. By accident I let my tank get to 1/4 tank. I watched my ďremaining milesĒ clock down to 100 as the warning light came on, as I pulled into the truck stop. It took about 75 gallons to fill it if memory serves. Like others, I start looking ahead for more diesel at half a tank. I always fill up or top off before camping for the night, cause you never know.

Cheers

I stop more often than I have to. It just seems less painful to put $100 in 3 times than $300 once.

I would estimate the most fuel that I can get in the tank with foam and the way the fill location is on the classics, is about 85 gallons total. The very most I have ever filled is 75 gallons, and I was worried how much I had left in the tank.

I have 130 gallons of diesel BUT the digital cluster will only show 99.9 gallons used. Same with trio odometer, all four limited to 999.9 miles. Most Iíve put in is 117 gallons and the low fuel warning was on for about 30 miles prior.

I owned a 2013 Aspire w 100 gal tank. The low fuel light would come on at about 1/4 tank. I’d always have to stop twice for fuel driving a long day vs once in my 150 gal tank now.

The problem with running below the low fuel warning level is if you run the generator, because it’s hot and running the house A/C units, if the genny gets to the fuel pickup low point the genny will quit. I had that a couple times and it’s a bear to get the genny re-primed.

The 150 gal tank is more expensive to fill, but works better for me. If you drive <300 miles in a day I suppose it doesn’t matter
