How to fix a super slide motor

The super slide out motor failed on my 2015 Anthem. Actually just one tooth broke off of one of the gears and would allow the slide to slip. I called Entegra and inquired about buying just that gear. They told me I had to buy the entire motor assembly for around $600. That put me on a research mission to find a solution for that one gear.

Just a little background on my research missions… When the circulation pumps started to fail on my AquaHot I called for a replacement. I was quoted a price of about $200 which I thought was ridicules. So I did a deep dive research for an alternative. I found a VW pump that was equivalent to the AH pump but was only $49 at the time, today they are about $30 off of Amazon. I posted my findings on this news group and I think a number of other owners are now using those pumps. https://www.irv2.com/forums/f278/rep...-a-372620.html

I did the same deep dive research to find the gear to repair my slide out motor. I called Klauber and tried to buy the gear I needed. Got the same response, I had to buy the entire assembly. The cost on line ranged from $500 to $700. So I was able to dig deep and DL the specs for the Klauber k01431b300. Then I looked for alternatives. I found what I thought was an equivalent motor (according to the specs) with 3 differences;

1) The through shaft is drilled for ¼ inch shear pins. That’s an easy fix, just drill both holes with a 5/16 drill.

2) This motor turns at 9 rpm as opposed to the Entegra motor which turns at 6 rpm under load. That means this motor moves the slide in and out 50% faster.

3) The most significant difference is that this motor costs about $100 with free shipping.

So I bought the motor and installed it. It’s pretty much the same assembly, same bolt pattern as the original. It’s about a 10 minute swap. I’ve run the slide in and out a dozen times and it works flawlessly and is noticeably faster.
This is the motor: Labwork Power Gear RV Slide Out Motor Maxi Torque Dual Shaft 523900 521976W.

It works for me.

Outstanding research. Thank you for sharing. My slide out motor has started a strange noise. I may use your alternative soon.

Is that for a dual shaft motor or single shaft motor? My ‘17 Insignia is a single shaft motor for the “super slide”.

Excellent post! Did you purchase the motor on eBay at the $116? I want to bookmark it, Amazon shows one at $451. After replacing 2 sets of Aqua Hot motors, both thankfully under warranty, your outstanding research has been forwarded many times. I can honestly say, you have me beat when it come to finding alternative repairs. I am a firm believer of dropping RV off of any part number I can. In this case, just a different brand. Outstanding job again!

I bought the one off of Ebay. There are lots of sellers selling them under other names. If you search on Ebay for "RV slide out motor" You'll find lots of different prices for that motor. I offered $100 and the seller accepted.

I didn't check for single shaft motors but I did notice that a lot of single shaft motors were being sold there as well. You just need to compare line-by-line the specifications of yours against the suspect candidate.

Great info. Couldn't believe the Entegra price on Amazon. No wonder Bezos is so wealthy. Even Walmart has it for $186.

Does it have enough torque to drive the big slide. The 500 series slide motors for other three slides turn at 9 rpm and don’t have enough torque for the big slide. I have tried to get Entegra to do to a steel frame motor and gears, especially for the big slide, but no luck on that.

My stock original OEM motor really struggles with getting the superslide going and rolling up the incline needed to get the slide rollers up on the tile.

Please be sure and let us know how the faster motor is doing in dealing with that initial start movement.

Gary,
I can hear a change in the pitch of the motor when it's pulling up over the "hump" but I didn't notice any change in the speed. Sometimes I wondered about the OEM motor stalling on that pull. Others may have different results because there are a number of variables that can effect that. Variables like; are you at ride height? The condition of the slide rails, alignment of the slide.... I'll just say it's no worse than the original and might even be better.

Of course I just changed a gear pack only to find I paid double. Thanks for the heads up. I will know better next time.

Reading the Product info the motor changes RPm's by the weight. Speed 9 RPM @ 850 in-lbs, 17 Amps
12 RPM @ 400 in-lbs, 9.5 Amps
14 RPM (no load)
Voltage 12 DC
Torque 850 in-lbs
Holding Torque 500 in-lbs.

In addition, 'if" it did not lost as long, A person can purchase 4 motors that would probably out last an OEM at $400.

I never move my slides unless I am fully at "ride height". I did move slides when not at ride height a couple of times when I was new to my 15 Anthem, but then by reading on this forum in 2015, I learned that it could cause really serious problems, and ever since then, I have religiously always come up to ride height before either deploying or retracting any or all of the slides.... its been "religion" for a long time now. It doesn't concern me that this sometimes requires turning the Cummins on and off a couple of times, or run the Cummins for longer periods of time (I don't like bothering my neighbors with extended idling).... I'm more concerned with causing damage to the fiberglass of the slides or walls and the Cummins is one tough beast!

It avoids problems and is just something that is required by Entegra's narrower tolerances between slide-wall openings and slide sides. Its just different for Entegra than other manufacturers!

I would assume if your using the air leveling system rather than jacks, there should be no issue moving the slides in and out?
