Hughes Watchdog surge protector

I wanted to install a permanent surge protector. In the past, I have installed 4 Progressive Dynamics in various RVs. But this time I decided to try the new Hughes Watchdog since it has a replaceable surge board and uses WiFi to track power usage. Installed it no problem in my 2015 Aspire.

But as soon as I turned it on I got an E9 error message, which means the surge protector board has been “used up”. Since this is a new unit that is unlikely. I’ll contact the factory tomorrow, but meanwhile if anyone has had this issue and found a solution that would help me a lot....

PS: the factory documents state that with an E9 the unit will still pass power but without surge protection. I see no buildup of heat or any other signs of problems, so I’ll leave it hooked up as DW definitely wants her power....

Contacted Hughes tech support and they had no idea what caused the problem, so they sent me a new surge board. Turns out this board was a new design and it took some effort to adapt the wiring from the old to the new board. But once installed it worked as designed. Below is a picture installed, the white face denotes that thee are no problems (it turns red if a fault is found, along with an error code).

In my opinion, the original design - which relied on silicone glue to hold the connectors in place - caused an poor connection and the resulted error messages.

Now all that is left is to dress the cables, use some cable clamps and I now have my internal EMS installed. Works great being able to see actual power consumption on my iPad..
