Hydraulic filter change !

Day three of my first annual motorhome started nicely, I located all the grease zerks and with a little bending and twisting I managed to get all greased nicely....Now on to the hydralic filter....A previous post here indicated that with little mess one could change the filter without losing all the fluiid... I obtained a new NAPA Gold filter and got out my trusty oil filter wrench and a small oil pan just in case a small amount of fluid spilled....I put on my rubber gloves and grabbed a rag and began to unscrew the fliter... A torrential flow of hydralic fluid stated pouring out !...ah oh.... so I tried to screw it back in...Well.. I found out that rubber gloves and hydralic fluid make for a very slippery operation, quickly I grab the oil filter wrench and it slips...By now the oil pan under the filter is over flowing so I grab a dry rag to get some friction on the filter... No luck, the rag becomes saturated and too slippery, a quick glance around... Thank God there is now one around to see this...Despondent and humiliated I watch as the puddle of fluid grows and the filter drips its last drop.... Well off to O'rilleys auto parts for a bag of floor dry and a 5 gallon pail of AW-46 fliud... I would have stopped for some liquid refreshment on the way , however my clothes and coveralls were completely soaked...

I don't have my manual anymore, but if I remember correctly...isn't the hydraulic filter not due for a change until 50,000 miles? That sounds like a real mess, I hope on the new engine, I won't be worrying about it for awhile.

mine was leaking at the screw on fittings so in order to spin it off and re pipe dope it we had to remove it then it was easy after removing the filter though.

Re : The question about changing the hydralic filter and by accident the fluid ....A long time RV tech advised me to change it early as the break - in residue and metals are removed and the system will be happy for a long time...It was cheap to do so.... Just a little messy !..:-)
