Hydraulic Fluid Cannister Cap

I was checking fluid levels on this hydraulic fluid cannister by the engine bay of my 2019 Entegra Anthem -- was unscrewing this cap, which I thought was a dipstick. However, I ended up dropping the bolt inside the tank (that holds the rubber seal on the cap, I think). I have tried fishing the bolt out with a magnetic pickup but could NOT seem to get it out from the opening of the cannister.

Any ideas out there on how to fish the bolt out? Also, what component(s) use this hydraulic fluid?

Thanks!
Roy

Take the clamp off the top and remove it. You can then see it with a flashlight and use hand/grabber/etc. to get it.

The dipstick that attaches to the cap should also be in there.

Later...

If it is like mine, there is a dipstick attached along with the rubber seal. Probably why you couldn't get the bolt with a magnet is because it is aluminum. Time to take the lid off and go fishing

Yup, and if you need a new lid gasket, this is likely the correct one:

Cummins # 999-55A or V52 99955A

I believe it supplies the cooling fan and the steering pump.

Thanks for the info - I did not know the hydraulic fluid was also used for the cooling fan.

The 450 has hydraulic fan, your 600 has belt driven.

Depends, the ISX600 can be config-ed differently between coach builders. Sometimes this tank supplies only the power steering pump, and the cooling fan pump will have a separate [larger] canister for fluid, or is belt - driven. As for your situation, the unfiltered oil returns to the outside of filter stack. Filtered oil for the pump goes thru the middle of the filter stack. Good news is the "missing" parts are now outside the filter[s] stack. Bad news is there isn't much room on outside of filter stack for "fishing."
PS--for future reference, the top cap loosens the rubber stopper, so the whole dip-stick assembly can be removed. Continuing to turn the cap, once stopper is loose, can results in lost parts. Many of us have been there.

After breaking the cap on my Travel Supreme getting ready to sell it, I realized, if there were no leaks, there was no reason to check the fluid. Mine broke from age and engine heat, no leaks and the fluid was full.

I did the same as the Op with my first Coach, I did not understand the plug or how it worked. They are basically a Expanding rubber plug, just a couple turns counter clockwise to make the plug smaller to remove and clockwise to make the plug expand........
This is a very common thing to happen to people, as it does take some side to side movement to break the plug loose from its expanded position when trying to remove it.
If you can't retrieve the plug, leave it in there as it is on the outside of the filter's as mentioned, and buy a expanding plug that size till you do a filter change. If I remember correctly it is a metal dip stick...... so maybe with a slim extending magnet might pick it up out of the housing.

Finally fished out the dipstick

Thank you all for the replies! It sure did help a lot as I did not have any clue on how the part looked like. I knew that it was being picked up by my magnetic tool crosswise as I could not get it out the fill tube.

So, I took out the clamp and removed the top off - and yes, there was a dipstick at the bottom of the cannister at plain sight! All good now!

Now, I will have to find out where my leak is coming out from my steer box under my cab area (https://www.irv2.com/forums/f278/oil...ea-650902.html. I lost about 1/4 of hydraulic fluid, well below the reach of the dipstick.

BTW, any recommendations for a good hydraulic fluid?

AW46 is the required fluid for that system. AW=anti wear
