I-10 WB FL to San Antonio, TX

Hi all

Well we made our trip about 3 weeks ago from San Antonio, TX to Fort Wilderness, DisneyWorld, FL and have one more week to here. When coming here, we took a northern route I-20 to avoid Hurricane Delta, but would prefer going back on I-10. Has anyone been I-10 FL to TX since the Hurricane? Does anyone have an update on the route? Should I avoid it and head north or go for it. We will be leaving Friday October 30th, overnighting at Bella Terra, AL and then going to our son's to meet up with grandkids for Halloween in Spring, TX (North Houston).

Thanks for any help you can provide.

Just be ready to tighten every screw and bolt on the MH and have your filling replaced as when you leave MS. I10 in LA is rough. We have better dirt roads in Fl. than the interstate in LA.

X2!!! what is shocking, it has been like that for 32 years that I am aware of. What is amazing is they cannot blame freezing temperatures for the problem.

X3!!! - I've driven many highways in the lower 48, and that stretch is the absolute worst I've ever seen. Plus, the last time we drove it, not only was the traffic miserable in Houston, but it was terrible in the Lake Charles area as well...

In the future, we'll go miles/hours out of our way to avoid that stretch!

I think you will be ok if you stay on the interestate, don't stop in SW Louisiana, the hurricane disaster area is partly open, but there is a lot of debris on the roads. I live in SW Louisiana and in the last two months since hurricane Laura struck, my wife and I have each had 2 flat tires due to nails and other debris on the roads, the same holds true for everyone else I know that lives in the area.

We are currently at the Cabela’s in Gonzales La (Baton Rouge), on our way to Heritage m/C Resort this weekend. We traveled E/B I-10 from SanAntonio today. As others have mentioned, portions of the road are in poor condition, in other sections, someone who obviously missed the chapter in the manual on lane width
placed the jersey barriers - 8’1” apart. .. traveling E/B, leaving virtually inches between the Coach and the vehicle next to you. As we traveled through the St. Charles La. area, a large swath of damage is visible from the roadway but the roadway itself was clear of any storm related debris.
Have a safe trip!

I've lived in south east Alabama for 40 years and have never heard of Bella Terra, AL. But if you know that Bella Terra, AL is OK then I suspect you'll have no further weather-related problems.

Friends in Fairhope (and Mobile) were significantly affected by the storm.

Just drove from Mobile to San Antonio on 10 earlier this week. Never again- at least until they stop re-building 10 and get the road restored. Maybe 5 years from now??? From Lake Charles to west of Houston the road is terrible in both directions. Concrete barriers flush against the lanes - no room for any safe maneuvering if needed, and no slack for any buffeting from crosswinds or passing semis, constant road alignment changes with trucks swerving around you. Very heavy traffic. And that is for scores of miles. My handprints are etched into the steering wheel permanently from the drive.

Coming through Houston last weekend I-10 was completely closed and a detour was in effect. The spaghetti of a road system in Houston allowed us the opportunity to miss a turn and get totally lost. Fun with a 40 ft rig towing.

I-12 and 10 east of I-12 are great roadways. But from now on I'll use I-20 east and west from Montgomery when Texas-bound, as there are no major cities of any great size and the road is good (Shreveport excepted) and less traveled.

I suggest I-20 and you'll have a more restful and enjoyable journey. Others may tolerate I-10's conditions but I am done with I-10 to and from Texas.

I use I10 at least twice a year to go from Houston to gulf shores. Some of the road does suck just slow down and it is doable. Houston has a lot of interstate through it just try to avoid rush hour if possible. The I 10 closure was posted for at least a week before they did it last weekend. Closures of this nature always happen on weekends due to high traffic volumes during week. Have friends that own lot at Bella terra. During the hurricane that hit gulf shores parts of park flooded. Lots around lake were the ones that flooded. Nice park but kind of pricey for what it offers. Safe travels

Enjoy the journey

Yes, Bella Terra was hit hard by the hurricane, but it is back to normal now. Luckily our coach was actually ok - it was on our lot next to the lake, but all is well. Have fun ... wish we would be there to see y’all, but alas ... we can’t. Lynn
