Ice maker
Does anyone recommend a portable ice maker. And how portable and convenient is for always having ice. Constant Samsung no ice ordeal is getting old.

Might want to check with Samsung. Many of the ice problems are being covered

I can't imagine that a portable ice maker is a workable option if you travel in your coach (tour). If you go from a winter location to a summer location, then repeat, that might be acceptable, but if you tour that would be a definite PITA.
I'd be getting the icemaker fixed or the refir. replaced rather than go through all that hassle

Check this out. We have one, and it works. You have to add water, but aside from that, it makes pretty nifty little tubular ice cubes. And it makes them quickly. It makes about a dozen "cubes" that are little cylinders about 1 ¼" long by ¾" wide with a ¼" hole thru the middle. It produces them about every 8 minutes, or so.

We have a portable ice maker similar to this even though my ice maker works in the Norcold. We keep this in the back bedroom closet and break it out in the spring and summer months if need be. You set it up on the counter top or anywhere you have an electrical outlet. They work great.

We also have a Frigidair portable, the one in the freezer is not reliable even with the repairs we had done. So we carry the portable with us...we use it a lot.

The problem I see with the portables is that they do not keep the ice. The ice turns over meaning it's made and then melts back into the water reservoir. The ice bin is not refrigerated. That also means your ice is watery. The other thing is that you have to pour the water in. If they had an affordable model that would hold the ice and was able to be hooked up to a water supply, I'd have one.

We use an ice bin, put the ice in the bin or into a ziplock bag and pop it in the freezer. Works for us!

Samsung fixed ours (a 2017) as a warranty repair in January. No hassles.

Bob, any details on this? Did Samsung actually send a tech out to work on the unit in the RV?
What did you have to do to make it happen?
Was the coach unusable for any period of time?

There have been several post regarding the class action for the Samsung ice makers. Those that have the owners manual, it had Samsung's phone number. Google showed. (800) 726-7864 for refrigerators.

Post #16 shows the service bulletin number. Post #19 and #25 shows what Samsung did https://www.irv2.com/forums/f278/sam...ml#post6035761

There are many more to be found using the search function. These are a few that should get the questions answered. Good luck to all with the Samsung ice maker problem.
