In dash GPS question.

Curious how the in dash GPS units in the Entegra's are for navigation? Are additional POI's able to be loaded? I currently have 22,000 RV related POI's loaded on an SD card and don't know if I can use then in the new nav system.

Also how do we load updates for the GPS? Thanks

Good question. I would also like to know if you can get the program and install it on a lap top or desk top to do a route and then somehow upload the route to the in dash unit. I also would like to know how, or if, one can update the data on the in dash unit and if there is a additional cost to somehow do so? With my portable Garmin I have lifetime updates and all I do is connect the unit to the internet via the laptop or desktop to update the maps and or software.

The Rand McNally GPS can be updated on a computer via an SD card at the front of the unit. You have to have the card in your computer to enable download of the RM desktop. Lots of free updates and features, several pay features also. Free link to POI Factory and a couple other POI sites.

You will probably have to load your POIs on the units card to get them to load in the GPS.

Thanks for that info Vance. Is the Rand McNally card a standard SD card?

Yes. Make sure you have your readers on when you try to find it, it fits very well in the front frame of the GPS. :-)

Thank you Vance. With your background I know you know GPS's and I appreciate your input. I will also do some research on RM's site about loading POI's from the POI Factory as I have a bunch already saved

The RV mode doesn't seem to do much for you. It doesn't necessarily select wider roads for you which I assumed it might do. It's still a right turn GPS so make sure you augment with a map when you are on smaller roads or urban areas.
