What's the difference between the Insignia and the Aspire?

Insignia VS Aspire

- Front axle weight rating
- Vega Touch
- Insignia doesnít have independent front suspension (not sure about Aspire)
- Insignia has propane Aqua-Hot system

Iím sure there are others but these are the ones I know of as being a Ď17 Insignia owner.

Propane Aqua-Hot MUCH MUCH less maintenance.
Aspire does have independent suspension.

Depends on year, Aspire started IFS in 17 along with 315 steers.

Is independent suspension that much of a better ride?

That's hard to answer. IFS is not usually an option you can get, like a slide-out drawer in the cargo bay. Usually a model either has it, or it doesn't. So if you really want IFS, you have to move up to the next model, which will come with a whole bunch of other differences that will affect the ride.

My opinion is that, while IFS does contribute to ride quality, it's a relatively minor effect. Far more important will be the quality of your shocks, the size of your tires and whether they are inflated properly, and whether you have a tag axle.

Where I think IFS matters is in the steering. I think that this one really is a marked difference. The question here is how much it matters to you. It mattered a lot to me.

You might try test-driving an Aspire. Even a new one will have a pretty similar ride to the Insignia you're looking at. If you don't feel like there's a night-and-day difference, I think that's your answer.

For what's available the aspire is a $30-50,000 difference.
Is that worth it?

Having had Aspires with both the solid axle and IFS, the ride difference wasnít significant and can be addressed on the solid axle by adding Safe-T-Plus. What is a major difference and worth every penny, IMHO, is the difference in axle weight rating and size of tires. Huge difference. If the Insignia is like the Aspire, you will be very close to max weight on the front axle before putting one thing on board. With the larger axle and tires, you can actually load your coach without going over weight.

The LP AquaHot was fine, less maintenance and odor free, but if you are going to do any cold weather camping, go with the Aspire with diesel. You will seriously burn through some LP in cold weather. Sometimes it can be difficult to get LP delivered to a coach.

The Insignia is no longer made so you would have an orphan coach. Not sure what impact that might have on resale.

Both are good coaches, you just have to decide what works best for you.

Thanks, that must be why the Insignia is $30,000 to $50,000 cheaper

I think itís more likely the higher weight limits on the heavier axle and larger tires. The orphan contributes but I donít think itís the biggest influence.

I also know this has been somewhat covered here.

The difference in steering with the IFS is so significant IMMHO. In fact I feel it is so significant that it totally IS apart of the ride equation also. WE test drove many coaches over the course of our buying journey and the ones without the IFS handled so badly at the wheel it was a constant fight. Making the overall driving experience extremely unnerving and uncomfortable.

Just my thoughts. The IFS was well worth the cost for us. Our Aspire is a pleasure to drive.

Good luck with your choice.

We test drove both and went with the Insignia based on the price difference. I honestly did not see much (any) difference in ride quality.

A side radiator coach built on a Spartan K2 chassis at the price point we purchased at in 2019 was a easy decision.

I agree with divingbiker
We have a 17 insignia and it drives and handles great.
Test drive 2020 aspire with IFS and did not see or deal any better drive. Just my opinion.
