Most of this thread focuses on price. If I were a weekend warrior, price might be my #1 criteria. As a full timer, I want to ensure I’m covered. I can’t risk a major issue not being covered because the adjuster thinks the caulking wasn’t resealed or some other excuse they can use to squirm out of a claim.

Who are the top reputable companies?

I didn't read all the replies so maybe someone has mention this already. Last year i posted something like this because Prgressive went up $800 from 2600 to 3400 motor home only. so someone on her suggested Hartford thru AARP at $3100 includes my new Toyota so any how i did it. Then i decided to sell my Toyota dont need 6 cars and you can't tow it. and they said the Toyota was about 1500 or that price and since i had done the AARP driver course my renewal was going to be about $1600 this year for a year. I asked Progressive why the big increase of $800 more. Get this because of all the fires in California. What the hell start it up and move to an area with no fire, Its not like the whole dam state is on fire.

Actually the best insurance price is AAA but when they found out my coach was over 40 ft they cancelled but for 2 days it was insured for a year to $760 i checked lately still have the 40 limit in place.

So, guess I can’t blame them for the increase. I did shop around, and National General was the least expensive.
I also found National General to be the least expensive. They offer "storage rates" meaning that when you know you won't be using your RV (usually winter months), tell them and they put it "in storage" and they drop the comprehensive charges. Our "full" rate has been consistently $1,800/year (if we didn't place vehicle "in storage") but when it is in storage, the rate drops to $600/year. A simple phone call and you can place your vehicle in storage or take it out of storage.

Another plus is they accept our Montana LLC (we live in TN).

Hope this helps

Insurance $

I almost feel bad for complaining with the amounts folks insurance premiums have gone up compared to mine. Progressive two years running 200$ increases. No change in driving record. Was told that was normal by progressive rep. I always thought the older the vehicle the less it was to insure?
Changed the 28th of March to National General. Same amount I started off with having progressive two years ago.
I find it interesting that the insurance companies are going to refund folks whom have been at home for the pandemic on account there not driving there cars. If your a weekend warrior or a full timer how many days a year are you on the road?

As many give what they are paying for insurance, from experience it all changes after a MH value exceeds $400,000. National General, Good Sam's, has a cap on values and would not insure my new Cornerstone. A few of the lower priced companies that others have shared, also had caps of $300 or $400,000. The OP owns one of those MH. Those caps went into effect after all the losses in TX after hurricane Harvey.
Most insurance companies now want weekend campers and not full timers or high value RV's.

Chuck is correct - we ran into this last year with Hartford (see my post #53).

So to save (lots of) money, I've changed my coverage to cover only the case where my RV might burn-up in the driveway where it remains. Will have to remember to "turn-on" collision and liability, etc. coverage again before the next trip, whenever that may be!

Does anyone else change coverage while RV is not being used? To carry this to extreme, I guess one could change coverage monthly depending on use? (But I bet insurers wouldn't be too happy with that scheme!)

This is a follow up. I succeeded in finding insurance for my house, the house i bought for my mother, and my two cars at an annual savings of $2,500 from Geico in a Geico bundle. It pays to shop!!

Had that conversation with them the other day also when checking on homeowners rates. They will not be giving anything to RV's, only autos.

They also would not bundle my homeowners, cannot insure in FL. If Progressive was not the only company I could get full replacement coverage over $400,000, I would be shopping also.

Found it almost impossible to rate shop with everyone working from home. Just paid the increase on my homeowners until next year.

One thing to consider if you’re not using your RV for a month or more is to reduce the insurance to “storage”. This suspends the collision and generally uninsured motorist insurance but keeps comprehensive for things like “acts of god” etc. Since collision is generally one of the most expensive line items one can save a good bit of money. The only caveat is if you’re a full timer, since most full timers have additional liability insurance which you don’t need if you own a home and have your liability covered that way.
