Intake Air Heater location and relay. ISL9

Engine Light error show heater voltage high or short in the signal circuit.
Does anyone have a history with this and can show me where the relay and heater is located so I can check the wiring and relay.

The ISL comes equipped from the factory with an integrated grid heater for cold starting. **Intake cover on engine

Relay....should be 2 ---1 for each grid heater

Where....I can't help there.

What condition is the happening. Running down the highway, at idle etc.

It should be off once warmed up of course I would assume. Those things draw a tremendous current so "high voltage" is a really strange issue.

Find those relays shown and get a measurement. Things you may not be sharing for example could be some sort of external charger on the batteries.

Amber engine light and code both running highway and idling.
Cummins Las Vegas didn't have time to diagnose.
Told not critical drove to Alberta Canada in April and used coach all summer.
Could be simply a bad connection or relay.
Cummins here want 3hrs diagnostics time $720 Canadian $
Just to find the fault plus parts and labor after that.
I just want it the engine light to go away.
I can use the block heater if needed.
Thanks

If you are in the cold then why not use the block heater as well? That is why it is there.

Thanks for the feedback. Since it happens at idle get a voltage reading on the batteries and at the grid heater relays.

Maybe one of the relays is stuck and continues to apply power and the system senses that the voltage has not gone away. Thus it codes that out as "high voltage".

Finally got around to fixing this Air Heater code engine light
Turns out it was the Spartan Mega 250A fuse.
Access required through the back bathroom floor hatch left side of the engine.
Cheap fuse 2 hours labor.

Dave,

When you say “left side of the engine” is that looking through the bathroom hatch or in other words the passenger side?

Dave, I'm also interested in the fuse location, as I now have the check engine light, and the "engine air intake" warning code. Thanks in advance.

Intake code issue

The fuse is located on the passenger side of motor. I replaced our 250a fuse once cleared codes and came back. Researched and realized the intake transformer / solenoid for the heater was faulty. A $39 part from Freightliner fixed. Cleared codes and all good. Both are located looking down bath hatch on passenger side left of valve cover. Verify wiring in intake also

Yes Passenger side through the hatch.
Solenoid shown in picture also a check point.
Fuse is mounted lower under the intake hose somewhere.
When the mechanic was testing the fuse he found intermittent power so something loose inside.
Likely these items and not the grid heater.Click image for larger version

I finally got around to working on my check engine light changing out the fuse. I still have the check engine light coming on assuming that it might be the intake transformer / solenoid ? JJT gave me a tip to take off the exhaust tip to be able to get to it To reach it I removed the chrome exhaust tip and climbed into the cavity between the block and the SCR.. Tight fit but was able to get to it took me a bit to locate the fuse. When i took the fuse off the ends of the fuse ( copper tabs ) were loose as compared to the replacement fues so i was hopeful that was the fix. I ( was careful not to clip any cables ) as when i got back to fire up the engine... I had 2 additional rror codes .. MID 178 Data Cnvtr PID 117 and 118 . went back and check all the connections and reseated them and those error codes went away. what still remains is the spn 729 fmi 5. I attached some pics for visual of what the fuse and holder looks like for others. Does anyone have the part number for the solenoid ?
