Jack Pad Scrubs Against Brake Line

Cornerstone / Spartan K3

I noticed my DS rear jack pad scuffs against the brake air line when the jack is raised or lowered. The other side does as well to a much lesser degree. I have tie-wrapped it out of the way as a temporary solution.

Is this a Spartan or Entegra issue - who installs the jacks?

I had a similar issue where the jack pads would rub on the front tire in a sharp turn and knock the pad off the jack. After going through this a few times, I finally took both pads off and put them in a power hacksaw and lobed the corner off each pad. No more crawling underneath installing jack pads.
Something for you to think about. In your case, the problem is a lot more of a safety issue. As far as I can determine, the jacks are installed by the House Builder.
Good Luck with your solution.

Thanks for the prompt replies & suggestion. I'll probably live with my tie-wrap solution until I visit Entegra in November. That was a clever solution to trim the pad. Must have been some hacksaw.

Bob,
Mine do the same thing, but worse on the passenger side. I did ask Joyce whether it was a Spartan or Entegra issue. But have not received a reply yet.
I am going to the factory tomorrow to drop off some bad parts and pick up some shade motors. I plan on re-asking this question when I am up there. I hope to track Joyce down to specifically ask.

Since it is a front brake chamber, loosen the band clamp and turn the back half of the chamber, until the hose is above the shoe.

Make sure the hose clears everything when done.

Yes and No. We lived in Warsaw (40 miles south of Middlebury) for many years before moving out to Nevada. Back here the last couple of weeks for DW and the VA and then we also have family here. We wanted to go to the ribbon cutting, but the VA got in the way of that. But at least being this close now has made a few of my repairs the last week easy enough. Just replaced the microwave Sunday and was able to just pick up the new one from the factory last week. Tomorrow I drop the bad one off and pick up some shade motors for this weeks repairs. So lucky we are here for those issues. But not so lucky that we had to come to Indiana for VA stuff for DW. We had planned to go up to the northeast this year, but that will now be next year.

We had that issue when we got the coach. When we went to Spartan for alignment and the 44 point check they caught it and re routed the line as well as another brake line that was rubbing on the frame.

What Swenster said, when mine was in for 44 Pt inspection I had Spartan tie wrap lines, put additional wrap on lines to stop chaffing against the chassis etc... No lines hang lower than the lowest point of the chassis, therefore nothing catches if possible.

Actually, that's a tag axle brake chamber, not a front axle chamber.

However, the chambers are the same as in the front so that is a good suggestion. Between that, and some strategic nylon cable tie locations the problem should be eliminated.

Just a cautionary note to all regarding loosening brake chamber clamps. It is okay to loosen the clamp on the steering and tag axle but not on the spring brakes attached to the drive axle. Never attempt any maintenance action on the spring brake chambers without first caging the chamber. If you do not understand the term "caging", it would be advised to let a qualified repair person do any adjustment/realigning of the drive axle brake chambers. The reason being the spring inside those chambers are extremely strong and if you loosen that chamber clamp it can and will kill or severely injure you if it strikes you as it departs the chamber.

Thanks for the warning. I think I'll stick with the zip tie solution.

Jerry, as they said in the Air Force, if you don't have the Tech Manual with you....don't do it! Must have been a reason for that.
