Leveling Sequence
The manual says slides out then jacks down.
Manual does not indicate the reason for that sequence -- what is the story?

Slides are aligned, when installed, to a level frame. Leveling does twist the frame a little or a lot, up to the programed limits. Pulling a slide in to a distorted frame is a recipe for jamming or damage.

Not sure that answers why slides out then jacks down -- or maybe I don't understand.

I was told by nate at Orlando rv, someone was toggling the levelers while slides were out at a dealership and cracked marble counters. while doing so

we thought this to be odd from all of our previous trainings on other units! However after Joyce and Don explained the design of the Entegra coach structure it made perfect sense. Just as mccsix said, the slides are installed on a level frame ( undistorted from leveling sequence). Prior to performing leveling the slides and coach are balanced and level to the chassi even though for person comfort the coach is not level. Open slides as coach is chassi level , not comfort level. If you level coach first and the ground was very unlevel and much flex ( within programmed limits) occured and you open slides it is possible for binding, jamming, or even overloading slide motors and damaging them also!
So as we were instructed by CS we run slides out first and then level, odd as it seems!
Hope that helps some.

Curtis,
As this thread gets read by other brand owners, there will likely be a number of folks come on a suggest that it is just the opposite with their coaches. And that is true for their coaches.
Entegra recommended approach is slides out, jacks down then jacks up, slides in. There are several other threads in this forum that have discussed this ... just trust the folks above and the Entegra guidance...that's the way to proceed. My $.02 worth.

I think I understand now.
Slides out first to prevent potential damage to slides and slide mechanisms.
Is it that simple?

Does the same procedure apply to the Cornerstone when auto air leveling?

Slides out first when coach is still fully aired up, having the coach fully aired up is the key when putting slides out and in....when you arrive to your spot the coach is aired up and slides can go out....before bringing slides in, coach must be aired up, then bring jacks up wait a bit more for system to re-air as some air was lost when jacks came up....now slides can be brought in. The key is for the system to be fully aired before slides go in or out, this keeps coach frame work as square as possible.

Exactly. All damage we've heard about is when following the procedure for SOB's. We had a Phaeton and it took some remedial training to get it right for the Entegra. I think Entegra may be the only one that recommends/requires this process.

The 'New" slides out first procedure is going to be hard for us to get use to. I will make a cheat sheet and attach it to the Equalizer panel for the first couple of trips until we get use to it. I am so use to hitting the level button as soon as I apply the parking brake.

Monaco also states that slides go out first and then you level. Their slides are installed as described above.

Yep, it took awhile to memorize but I think I've finally got it:
Arrival:
1. Set brake,
2. Turn off ignition,
3. Extend slides,
4. Level
Departure:
1. Retract front night shade (this one made me look silly once)
2. Start engine,
3. Retract leveling jacks,
4. Retract slides
