Loss of finish on mid-bath cabinet fixtures vs "off gassing"
Our Cornerstone is now 26 months old and because of some surgery and COVID, we had to delay our scheduled 2 year PDI at the mothership until early November. This is related
My wife has been asking me to look at the cabinet door pulls since the coach was about a year old saying that she thought it looked like the finish was "getting dull". I looked at the pulls half heartedly and thought she was seeing things. However, now at 2 years, it is clear that most of the finish is gone from the drawer pulls and the pulls are beginning to corrode. The only guess that I can give is that the half bath toilet must be doing some "off-gassing" from the black or gray tank, or whoever installed the hardware put a less than perfect set of hardware in the half bath where the finish would be less noticeable.
I dont think that I have ever read a post asking about cabinet hardware in the past 4 or 5 years, but now I am wondering. Anyone else having problems with this?? Also, anyone else have any experience with off gassing in the half bath. Dont notice any hardware problems anywhere else in the coach or in the rear full bath area so am wondering. I use "Happy Camper" black tank treatment in the black tank.... dont know if that might be related to this problem?
Any ideas
Gary

The tolit in my half bath was mounted an inch off center. Gasing wasn't the word for it, it stunk

Gary,
I'm not at the Coach to look at my cabinet hardware, but my recollection is that nothing seemed out of the ordinary. I would think that "off-gassing" would also include some type of smell or odor that you would notice, at least intermittently. On the bright side, when you visit Entegra in November hopefully they will find it in their hearts to provide you with a new set of hardware. It would be interesting to find the cause though.

We have a '20 Anthem and have noticed a "dulling" of many of the cabinet handles. When closely examined it resembles oxidation and can be relatively easily removed with a vigorous wiping. I have not noticed any nonremovable corrosion as of yet, but will more closely inspect upon returning. The handles appear to be of a chromed metal design, although I am not totally confident of this assessment. I use the term handle rather than pull as their design requires 2 attaching screws vs. 1 on the type I would call a pull. I'd attach some pics, but as eluded to earlier, I'm not currently at the coach.

Do you have any bleach products stored in the cabinets? If I put anything metal in my pool shed, it deteriorates in a short period of time. A few years ago there was a bleach contained toilet flush product on the market, it has since been removed. It took the finish off Moen faucets.

I used to use a bleach product down into the black tank that was carried by Walmart but I stopped using that with the Anthem (because it let off a caustic fume when adding to the clear toilet water) and have never used it with the Cornerstone.... what I use is Happy Camper I think it is and it says no bleach, but I will re-read the container just to be sure. I started using it because Cruzer said he used it.... I'll follow up.

Took a picture of the differences between the two handles... the shiny one is from the kitchen and the dull / pitted one is from the half bath. Pretty noticeable difference in longevity.

That is a big difference. Any bathroom cleaner being used that would cause that?

No, we wipe with microfiber cloths and water... nothing else my wife says.
Also, no bleach products stored in the half bath cabinets. Windex, Simply Green, etc. stored in bottom cabinets.

That looks like anything metal put in my pool shed. Are all of the pulls in the bath like that? If so, there has to be a chemical reaction coming from somewhere. If it is only one pull, probably a bad finish, but it looks like a chemical reaction.
I keep everything cleaning wise including bleach in my cabinet. I am on my way to the MH in a few minutes, I'll check my bathroom pulls.

Wow, Gary, what are you eating!? Perhaps more fiber would help? [emoji23]

I wish it was that simple. Dee and I love spicy southern and Asian food, but didnt think that would be the result.
Chuck
Yes, every pull in the half bath looks like that. Well, I will strip everything out of that cabinet that might be a problem.... the Happy Camper black tank additive (but it goes right down the drain) and windex and Simple Green etc. Will try removing all of it for now and see what happens to some new hardware.

Gary we have those exact same cleaners in our half-bath, among others, and have for two and a half years with no discoloration or pitting. Ours are more of a brushed look, but no difference between the bath and kitchen fixtures.
My guess is a bad batch and hopefully Entegra will replace them for you.
