Lost tag hubcap, 3 nut covers

Got to my destination today and did my usual walk around, only to discover they a tag hubcap and 3 chrome nut covers were missing. I don’t remember especially bad roads today, and last night we spent in an up scale RV park.

The hubcap is held on by a big nut that requires a special wrench, I just can’t see it falling off. Have any of you lost a hubcap with the big nut or nut covers, or should I be more suspicious of my last nights stay?

Be suspicious.

Those hubcaps are not easy to get off if tightened properly, and I don't see them somehow coming loose. Never lost one, or a nut cover, even on our great highway system. I would believe they were stolen, but doesn't make sense either

I remembered a few post where others lost hubs caps while traveling. In 14 post were going around the hub caps were not tight at delivery. I checked min 3 of them were loose, one really loose. When the hub caps come loose, or not put on straight, they flip the nut covers off, learned that one the hard way.

I had that happen to the front left steer hub. The hub cover did not come off but was loose enough to turn by hand and three nut covers were missing. I took the hub cover off and discovered the bracket holding it had broken at the bolt holding it on causing the cover to bounce around and somehow knock off the nut covers. I was able to tighten it and Entegra replaced it during our AIR.

Lost tag hubcap, 3 nut covers

Took a much closer look at the bracket and noticed one of the two tabs had broken off, and the other showed signs of the hub cover wearing a groove on it. And there is a piece of the nut bolt itself broken inside the threaded part of the bracket.
My conclusion now is it wasn’t theft but vibration that broke the bolt and when the hub cover went flying it took the three chrome nut covers with it. A further guess is at one point I drove quite a length of concrete road with expansion joints that caused continual “thump thump” vibration. That may have done it. Or that one massive bridge to highway joiner that almost knocked my fillings out…
Thanks for the links, I’ll order new parts when I get somewhere long enough to receive shipments. The one positive: it’s easy to see that my hub oil is at the right level .

I lost a front hub last winter traveling home from Fla. I have two spare tags if you need one.

Had 6 tires replaced and DW heard a clanking as we pulled into the next Park. Checked everything and found three of my hubs very loose. Tightened them up and all was good. I check them routinely now.

We lost one because it was too tight from the dealer - When I talked to Spartan about getting a replacement. They stated 2 or 3 click past it seating is all it needs.
