Low air alarm - Cornerstone

We got a low air alarm 3 times on our last trip of 8 hours.

The air gauges were reading normal.

The alarm cleared a few seconds after it came in.

We have never had the low air alarm before.

One of the three times I was hitting the brakes. The other two we were driving with cruise on across an interstate.

I am a newbie at this.

Any ideas on anything I can check?
I was reading that maybe resolved by turning the air pressure up to 135. I am not sure if that is correct or how to do that. ??

Does this type of problem need to go to a Spartan repair facility?

Last - as long as the air gauges read normal is the coach sad to drive?

Thanks

Turning up the PSI isn't needed or a fix.

If your gauges are reading more the 100 PSI, when you hear the alarm, its just a sender issue not a low air problem. Could be a loose wire connection.

It is just the alarm that goes off or do you also have the low air warning on the dash? If the gauges are not dropping in air pressure, and no warning on the dash, it sounds like a faulty alarm. If air pressure is staying up past 100 psi it is safe to drive.

To adjust the air pressure, the governor is in the rear of the coach back by the batteries. There is a photo post here on how to adjust that up to 135. On the 21's That is now sealed where it can no longer be adjusted. Don't ask me how I know.

Air pressure is staying above 100 on both front and rear.

I am getting an audible alarm and a message on the dash. Then they both go away about the same time.

I've had it happen about 6 or 7 times over 38,000 miles. As others have said, if your gauges are showing good safe pressure and it stops beeping after 30 seconds or so, it's a sensor or grounding error of some sort.

If it is losing pressure when the alarms go off it is your D2 governor.

So an air leak couldn't be the problem ? Just the governor ?

I guess I got keyboard happy.

You could have something leaking or the D2 governor could be going bad by not starting the compressor back up once pressure gets too low.

If air pressure gets too low the parking brake will be applied. The parking break has springs that apply the parking brake. When you push down on the yellow knob it then uses air pressure to press against the spring to release the parking brake, if the pressure goes too low the parking brake knob will pop out and the parking brake will be applied.

This is an item you should test from time to time.

Start the coach and wait for it to build up pressure.
Shut your engine off with your foot on the brakes, leave the key on so you can see the pressure gauges.
Push the parking brake knob in.
Now pump the brakes and watch the air pressure go down every time you press down on the brakes.
When the pressure gets too low (around 70 psi) the parking brake knob will pop out and then apply the parking brakes.

So if I'm reading this correctly if I'm driving along and suddenly loose pressure my parking brake will engage?!? Doesn't sound right and very unsafe.

Yes, at 65 psi the brakes will apply so not to have a run away vehicle due to brake failure. A person will not be able to continue down the road with a broken air line and no brakes.
JMO but all states should have the same air brake test that TX does.

Actually Gary, that is a major "safety" feature.

One of the things that you are taught at almost any safety class that you might attend is that if the driver has sudden medical problems and is no longer able to control the coach, that the recommended move for the passenger is to simply reach to the dash and apply the parking brakes and then hold on real tight to prevent being thrown against the front windshield as the brakes are applied to bring the coach to a halt. We have heard that "talk/recommendation" several times.

During my acceptance drive from the Dealer, the salesman had me pull park brake at about 40 mph as an emergency demo. Coach came to a stop without swerving or incident.

Bill

Thanks for that information. I have heard that is the thing to do several times, but never done it myself or heard from anyone who has triggered it themselves.

That is reassuring.
