So you did pull the whole basin ton get access to the motor. That wis the way it looked to me but it seemed like you were trying to find a way to avoid that possibility. I assume the 3" caps were for the connected coach sewage pipes coming in?

I understand the rest. Do you remember where you found the motor by itself?

Gary,

I apologize for the intrusion into your query to Jeanne. However, after reading Jeanne's description, I replaced my macerator pump/motor assembly following her suggestion. I posted my experience here: https://www.irv2.com/forums/f278/mac...ay-581261.html

I found it relatively easy to remove the 16 screws on the top of the macerator box to gain access to the pump/motor assembly. The biggest challenge was to remove the corroded screws that hold the pump/motor assembly securely in the box. I described the process in my post in the thread listed above.

I couldn't find a source for the pump/motor assembly alone. I purchased the whole assembly (Thetford 97518 Pump Replacement w/ Tank Housing) from https://www.boatandrvaccessories.com/ for $257.42 + tax and S&H (shows out of stock now).

Jeanne was very helpful to me via PM's thru my replacement.

I would very highly recommend that, if replacement of the macerator pump/motor is necessary, trying to do it without removing the whole gray box housing is well worth a try. Messing with the Fernco fittings looks like a huge challenge in the confined space. Going in through the top cover worked well for me. Use of an angle driver to remove/replace the 16 screws would greatly hasten the process.

I also followed Jeanne's advice and used stainless steel screws to attach the new pump/motor assembly so that, if it's ever necessary to do this again, perhaps they'll be intact and easy to remove. More so than the original screws which were badly corroded.

Take care,
Stu

Thanks Stu. Long ago I found that Harbor Freight was a God send for inexpensive but rarely used tools. I don't have a 90 degree driver but if I get to that point in the future, it will be a quick trip to Harbor Freight.

Gary,

I purchased the entire unit and just used the motor. Scrapped the big grey box/housing. If I had used the grey housing I would have installed a rubber cap on the unused ports. I believe if you get the unit from Entegra they install a hard, glued cap on that front port. Using a rubber cap would allow you to get into the box to clear anything that might have gotten in there to jam the pump.

I doubt that you can find just the motor/pump for sale anywhere.

Jeanne
