I can say that after spending a total of 4 months (so far) in this coach with this plumbing mod, that it works quite well.
Draining downhill from the macerator permits leaving the Grey valve open indefinitely while at a FHU site.

I too did Gary's mod for the door latch last year, much better than the flimsy plastic latch.
Like Matt I find the macerator super simple to use and clean, I like it. My system is stock with the hose outlet uphill from the macerator and behind the flimsy door. The nice thing about this setup is the hose is always attached to the coach, so nothing to connect just pull it out and use it.
I was going to do Matt's mod and redirect the output under the door mainly for the gray water draining, but found the gray water will drain anyway with the stock setup when the tank gets about half full. I decided this was preferable as it keeps crud on the tank walls from drying out and build-up inside the tank to a minimum.
After about a year of full time living with this setup, the only mod i have planned now is to add a set of cam lock fittings to the business end of the hose so I can easily add an extension hose if needed.
