Macerator Toilet -v- Chemicals

Greetings all. I certainly hope this doesn't morph into a "which chemicals are best verses geo method" threads, so I'll ask the question first. What are the opinions on using powdered chemicals in macerating toilets since Entegra uses all macerating toilets?

I have two favorite black and grey tank chemicals that I use; Happy Camper (powdered) and Tank Techs (liquid; Welcome to TankTechs where we solve holding tank problems, GUARANTEED!). I really like the claims made by Tank Techs, and have used it for just over two years with nothing to say or prove that it does not do what it says. However, I feel that Happy Camper is well established, so I'll still use it on occasion between the Tank Techs treatments. My concern and question is that despite the granularity of Happy Camper chemicals, could using it on a macerator toilet lead to future problems? There have been times when putting Happy Camper into the grey tank, the powders will sometimes clump into small rock-like pebbles in the sink. I wonder if the same could happen going down the macerator.
Thoughts?

We have been RVing about 5 months a year for 18 years and have never used any chemical and have never had a problem.

Dewey, when I received all of the toilet rebuild parts and instruction there was a lot of "do not use" chemicals except for Thetford brand in the print out which would be normal. I don't use any chemical except in extreme heat, then that is added in the 1/2 bath straight drop toilet. Since this method was posted on the forum years ago, this is all I ever use now and it works. I use my phone timer set at 14 minutes and my water regulator is at 55 psi.

I don't think any of the top brands are going to hurt anything as they have probably all been tested, but a clean tank eliminates the need for chemicals.

On many of the bath and 1/2 models Entegra uses an electric gravity dump toilet in the half bath and a macerator toilet in the back. If the Happy Camper clumped up it could potentially cause a problem with the impeller in the macerator toilet.

Thanks Don . I caught on to that when Chuck mentioned his 1/2 bath, but it appears that the '19 44F is using macerating toilets in the front and back.

I have been using Happy Camper treatment for ~ 3.5 years with no problems. With the 15 Anthem, you could load water into the black tank from the half bath sink and ensure that the Happy Camper crystals were nicely dissolved before they went down the drain. In this 19 Cornerstone, you cannot use the mid bath sink as it now drains into the gray tank. So I fill 3 or 4 pan fulls of water from the kitchen sink and dissolve the Happy Camper into the pans and dump them into the mid-bath toilet and flush it down the drain. This is done as soon as I finish flushing out the black tank with the tank flush spray or anytime that I simply dump the black tank.

I have had no problems, and don't see how it could clump as it is dissolved before it goes into the tank, and no problems with smell. I have also started putting some Happy Campers down the kitchen drain into the gray tank to prevent smell in the gray tank. I have had some pretty nasty looking dumps from the gray tank and they can be as much of a problem as the black tank in some coaches.

No problems from either approach. Also, I used to use the Camco black tank treatment which is heavily formaldehyde chemicals, and I didn't like the fumes from that stuff at all. Caustic..

Oh darn! Too bad. The best and safest solution with the Happy Camper might be as Gary suggested to dissolve in a bucket and then flush down either macerator toilet.

I'm thinking I'll just use the rest of the Happy Camper in the grey tank since I treat both tanks each time, and just start using Tank Techs in the black tank full time.

I keep a mason jar near my tub of Happy Camper. I fill it full of water and dump a scoop in the jar, put the lid on and shake. This dissolves the powder. Pour into toilet and flush. Works very well.
