The concept is complete different.... The standard shades inside the coach are obviously inside the coach. Therefore any heat they block or absorb is inside the coach already. The MagneShade is outside of the coach and attached to the windows outside with magnets. Consequently the heat absorbed by the shade is absorbed outside and before it gets into the coach. The MagneShades are also substantially heavier fabric. The amount of light reduction to me is secondary to the cooling function of the shade. The function of the shade is heat absorption.
Now, as someone else has already said, when the MagneShades are applied to my coach, the coach quickly is much cooler. I often have the MagneShades on all windows from the toll window on the driver side to the small copilot window on the passenger side as well as have the inner shades in a down position. For the hottest of the day, outside MagneShades, inside day shades, and night shades all down. Now, our ambient temps in Louisiana and Texas in July, August, and September can all be in the upper 90s to low 100s. The MagneShades really help keep the coach cool.
We virtually never use our MagneShades just for darkening the coach and therefore, they are rarely installed in the winter. But, for a trip during those summer months, if we are going to be parked for more than 24 hours, the MagneShades go up all around the cab. Ours are plain black.... I did not want our MagneShades to attract a lot of attention.... I just want them to help keep the coach cool. They can do some nice pictures on the shades, but that is not why I have shades.
