Magneshade Warning

For those of you who have Magneshades, they can be blown off your windows in moderately windy conditions. We were in the Outer Banks last night and had winds about 30 mph. Both the toll window and the windshield came off the coach. Fortunately, I discovered it before they disappeared.

I realize that we have to be careful and that it is unreasonable to expect the magnets to hold in all conditions. However, I was a bit surprised that they came off in those conditions. I would have expected them to "hang in there" . Still love them (as well as the tire covers) but, I will keep a closer I on them.

Will keep an eye on ours; however, they have stayed on in gusty winds of 40+ miles per hour here in Arizona.

Yep, OBX ain't for sissies! Blows like stink all the time. That's why Orville and Wilbur went their. Blew so hard their one time that we stayed at Camp Hatteras we had to leave after two weeks and we had paid for a month. Do you still cross over the temporary steel bridge on 12?

Same happened to me. 30 mph wind took the windshield one off. Luckily it did not go far.

I remember it well. Gusty as heck. Gotta take the hike up kill devil hill.

I live in a windy place and lost my shade a time or two with my old coach. For this coach, I paid an up-charge for the half inch magnets all around.

Thanks for the heads up - we are headed to outer banks and will take extra precautions. Didn't know the wind was always an issue out there....duh

Yes, the steel bridge is still there and it rattles plenty when you go over it. This was our first trip to OBX and Camp Hatteras. We certainly didn't use any of our awnings while we were there!

It certainly would be nice to find a place with decent Wi-Fi.

magna shade cracked the windshield

back in '12 we took the motorhome to DC and had a thunderstorm with some good winds. The winds pulled up one magnet and flopped around enough to crack the windshield. had to be replaced (insurance paid)
Make sure the magnets are well attached.

Those parks are becoming VERY rare anymore. We switched to wi-fi "hotspots" using Foxfi on our Android phone several years ago. We now have wifi where ever we go even on the road and it's one time $7.95 app fee, using our current data plan. FoxFi - Turn Android into free WiFi Hotspot (no root)

Wow! I guess that says something for the other brand that attaches with soft suctions cups. BTW, my other brand will come off in a strong wind as well. I normally put them away or don't use them.

Where we winter not many folks use magnashade as they blow off in the wind. It doesnt have to be a strong wind just the right direction. After watching people out looking for their shades in morning It made it easy for me to stick with snaps. Nice tight fit and cant blow off.

Understand snaps, but can't get away from the look when shade is not up. Just not or me, but this whole shade "look" is very personal, so JMHO. I have had a blow off one time in a heavy thunderstorm. Didn't go very far. On the other hand, they stood up well in 50 mph at Goodings in Monument Valley, so i think it probably has to be the perfect wind direction to catch the edge.

I have snaps...not bad for side windows but a PITA getting up on a ladder, especially after forgetting to install the windshield shades before leveling. LOL

I've always been concerned that a nasty wind could actually cause the snaps to pull out and damage the coach. If the Magne Shades come off, I would think they could have a small chance of dinging the side of the coach in the process but not ripping out a whole.

Just something I have been thinking about.

BTW...this is not solely an EC issue and would be nice if tossed out into a more open forum. I'm just saying'
