Mascerator Fountain Surprise
Got up this morning and decided to empty my holding tanks. They weren't full but we are done with the motor home for a few months and I didn't want anything but water in my tanks. I have the Sani-Con Turbo so I pulled out the Mascerator hose and connected it to a 3/4" hose as per the manual. Turned on the tank sprayer and pulled the black tank valve handle, hit the power button and stepped behind the motor home to do something else. After about 5 minutes started hearing "water"splashing up by the wet bay (not something you want to hear during that job). Ran over to the bay and could see yellow/brown water pouring out the bay drain hole. Yup, it was what you are thinking. Shut off the pump and closed the valve. Removed the access panel and sponged the Mountain Doodoo out. Began looking for the source but could not see anything obvious so had to open the valve and turn the pump back on. I almost had my first "golden shower". Turns out the Mascerator hose had a 1/4" split about a foot from the place where it attaches to the pump. My 2016 Anthem is only 2 months old so it wasn't caused by any abuse on my part.
Sent an email to Joyce Skinner/customer service and she replied very quickly that I wasn't the first to have this happen and they are working on a solution for it. She also said they are trying to get the word out to owners to be watching for this. Trust me when I say you will know pretty quickly if it happens to your unit. She included a drawing, photos, and a parts list for the repair along with a promise to find someone to fix it for me. Thanks Joyce, you are awesome.

You know, I understand some of the positive features of a macerator system, but IMO why change to something when it doesn't really need it. I prefer the old 4 inch stinky slinky and the simplicity of a great big gravity fed hose. Is this progress?

I totally agree. Simplicity is a winning strategy and gravity is the most reliable force on earth. Why mess with sucesss?

Oh Boy, the macerator was on my system list to check out today. Not so sure I'm as excited about this system especially as it sounds as though there is a hose glitch. Totally agree Joyce will ensure we get a fix and YES she is awesome !

My issue with the post is the part where Joyce told you that you were not the first with that problem and that they are trying to get the word out to have owners watch for it. She has all our contact information, so how hard is she trying? Her reactive response to you may have been amazing, but the proactive actions she is suggesting they are doing leaves opportunity for improvement!
I see that often, so many issues that each of us have struggled with are common. In my mind it would be easy for Entegra to inform all the owners of issues to be aware of. Now that would be amazing customer service.

The sani con system is great if you ever need to pump up hill and it works great provided it doesn't leak! If the leak was down stream of the pump maybe it puts too much back pressure when using a 3/4 in. hose.
You still have the option of using the slinky hose, just not as easy to hook up. Noel

I have a portable one that I only use when I dump my tanks at home. My septic tanks are 125 feet from where the MH parks. When camping, I use the regular "gravity" 3 inch sewer hose.
But the wife does not care for public restrooms, so when we are returning home with a long drive, she can use the facilities in our MH and I can rinse and dump at home.
Options are terrific !

That leak may be the reason my sani con Owners manual says to pump some gray water for a short time before running the black tank.

You're right. You were not the first. I was.
The problem is that the Sanicon turbo is really fast and powerful. The 1-1/2" outlet hose is flexible, like a vacuum cleaner. It runs from the Sanicon over to the compartment wall where it passes through the wall and into the steel hose compartment. Where it passes through the wall, the hole is sealed up with foam and holds the hose tightly, as if it was clamped. When the blast-o-matic Sanicon kicks in the sudden surge causes the flexible (and extendible) stretch hose to whip around violently until the flow settles in at a steady rate. The hose can only take so much of that and then it cracks. I brought that to their attention and they set up correcting it. They now hard plumb the hose up to the hose compartment. They will also be adding a manual shutoff valve to the Sanicon's output but I haven't seen that yet.
Fortunately they do still have the manual bypass valve for a 3" slinky. The only problem is that even when using the bypass, the flow still gets to the Sanicon's hose so if it is split, it will leak. Just not as bad. That's why they will be adding a shutoff valve in the near future. When my hose blew I temporarily put a threaded plastic pipe plug into the Sanicon's output port to allow me to use the 3" slinky without any leaking. I have since hard plumbed the system and added a 1-1/2" dump valve to act as a shutoff.
It was just a learning curve on a new system and I was the first in line to find out about it because I had the first 2016 off the line. Stuff like that is to be expected but Entegra got on it real quick and began hard plumbing the latest systems so there's no worry unless you got one after mine and before the new design was implemented. In that case Entegra will take care of it and retrofit those coaches.
With that now taken care of I have to admit I really like the new system that they came up with for 2016. The ability to use the new super-fast Sanicon Turbo or the 3" slinky gives me lots of options and the redesigned wet bay and holding tank sizes are nice. I did remove my black tank sprayer hose connection though. I plumbed it direct to the system via a check valve and electric solenoid valve. Now I can flush the tank with a simple flip of a rocker switch. I even added a flashing red LED light to warn me that it's on.
