More on the DEF Sensors per Cummins

That actually does make sense. Apparently at one point there were two varieties of DEF level sensors, one with two wires and an alternate with three wires. They were both analog sensors though.
I guess the manufacturer figured out that they could use the same replacement sensor for both versions by using a connector adapter.
That explains it, the replacement is an analog sensor with a different connector.
