Stu, that reminds me of a quote I read a while back (although I don't remember to whom it was attributed):

I want to thank all the owners who have posted above. You have given me some excellent ideas and ways to likely avoid spending another $500 of my hard earned retirement nest-egg on a dumb design problem. I am particularly impressed with the great ideas about how to hold the rock guard up during maneuvering.... (Dee (my DW) will be very appreciative for the ideas). The company that makes the rock guard has six or 8 standard hardware options for connecting the rock guard to the coach frame. Here is my guess..... all of them are probably appropriate for some year and vintage of a coach type but I'll bet when used on my coach as it came off the line, or arrived at the dealer, were simply put onto my coach without concern for whether the mud flap actually was positioned at the correct position. As I say, I was concerned that my mud flap seemed too close to the ground when I bought the coach, but then again, it hasn't fallen off in 3.5 years, so I just got as lazy as the guy that installed it and didn't do what needs to be done to make it really fit in the right position off the ground. Then I made it worse by backing the coach into and out of my driveway 50 times, and bingo, I've got a problem and an expense.
I'm slow sometimes, but I learn quickly from dumb mistakes, so this next time, the coach will comply with the guidance of how it should be hung. My first hunch about a better solution is probably going to cut more threads on the main eye bolt that holds the standard links to the coach frame. The threads do not continue on the eye bolt right up to the eye, so the rock guard cannot be mounted any higher because you run out of threads... I'll let you know if that additional thread cutting does the trick and complies with what I am told are the mounting requirements: Minimum of 2" below any metal/object above the rock guard, and the rock guard equal to or more than 4" above the road surface. File that away and check your own coaches.

Mud Flap Separation - Probably my fault (LONG)
Has anyone noticed that Newell and Prevost busses don’t have these stupid mudflaps? Adding flaps behind the wheel where they belong is the best solution and one that assures no more issues!

Here is an opportunity for a startup.... Please feel free to design really attractive behind wheel mud flaps and design a brain-dead easy installation set up. I'll consider buying some.
Actually, I REALLY DON'T like the looks of behind-the-wheel mud flaps!! No personal offense meant for the owner above that showed his set up.... Just a quirk of mine.... to me, they dont look attractive.... but for those that do, Gary, put me on a mailing list and when you bring your company and product on-line, send me an email and I will give them a look. A $500 "lesson" leads to serious and deep learning for most people.. !
There are many ways to make a contribution to humanity, and this might be one of them. --

Gary, I actually have installed 2 replacement mudflaps. One warranty and one insurance. When it comes time for me to actually buy one, believe me, I will be installing something else. I haven’t kept a coach long enough but since I don’t like the new ones this might be the one! I’ve already looked and it seems to be pretty straightforward. As far as looks are concerned, I prefer it not being noticed. If you look, there is actually one already there, it’s just very short.
