My project for tomorrow!

Aqua Hot pump failure finally reared its ugly head tonight. Pump #1 has a red light on it and the Aqua Hot shuts itself down. Temperature tonight 3 Celsius. By turning off zone 1 and 2 and leaving zone 3 ON could get heat to the basement and the back end with the fireplace heating the front. Already have the replacement pumps from Aqua Hot (received them in the spring as part of the replacement campaign) so tomorrow's project is to change out pump #1. I wonder how long before the rest start to fail?

Don, if they were like mine, they went 2 at a time. Surprised that AH did not require the old pumps immediately. They were adamant that my old pumps be returned ASAP. Nice that you didn't have to rush into the change. If they are going out, I would change them all and get it over with. I am having problems with the changed pumps, better now while it is under warranty. There are other new pumps out again.

Don My Aqua hot repaire man replaced all my pumps in Madison ralley they had a # of pumps that are no good . This was done with no cost to me. I also had the low water sensor replaced that is a warranty recall which just has been done in Middleberry. Check with the services teck at Entegra who works on the Aqua hot units . I had posted on another Aqua hot thread - but if your current motors are square and the ones AH sent were round - you will need to change out all the pipes as well and totally drain the system to do so. Also according to JR at NIRVC, a red light on the pump 3 panel, does not necessarily mean the problem really is pump 3!

Chuck,

You are right I might as well change them all and get the crappy square replacements switched so I can also wear them out to get the newer round ones. Once in there to do one the others will be a snap.

When I called for my replacement pumps they said to throw the old ones out, no need to return.

Don, I don't know how many hours you have on your AH, but if you have the burner off to change #3 pump, it's good time to replace the nozzle if it's getting close to needing changing. However, the would throw you past tomorrows project unless you have one on hand.

Chuck,

Circulation pump swap out is complete. Nice and toasty up front now. Very quick and easy with hose pinch pliers. Even refilled the pumps with boiler fluid once the bottom hose was on. The biggest pain was getting those plastic push pins mounted in the back holes of the pumps.

Thanks for the suggestion on the nozzle and filter but I already did it in September. Also have a spare set for next time. I am experimenting with a change interval of 16-18 months, will see how it goes.

That was my plan too. But since I am swapping all of the pumps, and the stir pump requires removal of the burner, I will do the nozzle a little earlier than planned.

That was the schedule I was on for a number of years. The proliferation of a "bio" component in diesel fuel has dropped me back to annual. If you are in cold weather with temps below 20 then put a healthy dose of anti gel in the fuel tank. My AquaHot hates "bio" particularly in cold weather.

Steve,

Thanks for the info. When I tore into the Aqua Hot in Sept. and changed the nozzle and filter things did not look too bad at all. Photo disc and combustion chamber needed very little cleaning and that was after 16 months. Will keep an eye on it though.

I think the problem is with fuel delivery to the nozzle. My fuel filter is in an unheated compartment up close to the fuel tank and I think some gelling occurs there which restricts fuel delivery.

While you're in there, be sure to exercise the tempering valve.
