Nail in tire

We are back in Bella Terra, Foley for the weekend. Got set up and heard air by the back tires. Felt around the back tag single tire and yes, major nail in the tire. Called Coachnet and getting the tire replaced tomorrow. Told them to replace the tire and not just patch it ... am I correct? I think I had read somewhere that it is best to replace and not patch a Michelin RV tire, right?

Good question if our installed Michelin's have road hazard and would that be covered? Wouldn't hurt to ask.

I pretty sure we don't have road hazard with the coaches...unless you bought it when they tried to sell it too you with the a upholstery protectant and the high priced service contract. Some do, but if you didn't then that is likely an $600 nail:(

Re Patch or Replace:
Replace is always better, on a Tag Id have no problem with non-matching tires so you are good there.

I am a bit leary of patching high pressure tires (100 PSI neighborhood and above) but have patched many low pressure (below 50 PSI) tires,

The one thing you do NOT want to do is plug 'em.. that does more damage than good. Unless you like plug it at 10 am and then drive to the tire place for a replacement.

Actually, it's going to be a $800 nail! Coach net pays for them to bring the tire - but you pay for the tire itself and labor to put it on. And we did buy "tire protection" only. Which will reimburse us for the tire and labor. So, won't really cost us anything.

Nail in tire

I had a nail in tire tread, tire partially un-pumped. Called GS road service. They dispatched a tire service to put on my mounted spare. Guy arrived, looked at it, discussed options - had him dismount the tire, patch from the inside and put it back on. Paid him a few bucks. This was a couple three years and several thousand miles ago. Michelin XRV tire.

If the tire is still knee deep in tread patch it. We took a tour of the local trick tire re-treading shop and were impressed with their ability to repair tires. Plus, on a high pressure tire the patch goes in from the inside, the patch itself is shaped like a mushroom and you push the stem through the hole.

I wonder how far you can blow a gummy worm out of a high pressure tire?

We had OTR trucks that carried 45 gross tons and patched nail holes regularly, no problem as long as it has not wallored out a bigger hole or is NOT in the side wall. A good truck tire guy can decide quickly if it is safe to patch it. All JMHO but a new tire is big dollars if it is not necessary.

New fed rules if the nail is on an outer tread you can not patch or plug them.

Just patch the tire. I have had a lot of truck tires patched and never a problem.

Just had our tag tire patched. No issues with the tire store.

Found the nail and went to a Michelin dealer. Told him I had a nail in the tire. He made no mention of replacing the tire. Patched it and charged me 47 including tax.

Todays patches are built for tires than contain high pressure. Working from the inside enables a competent repair man to put in a dependable long lasting patch.

I think it depends on your service contract. I would read it and make sure it doesn't saying something to the effect that they will replace the tire if it can't be patched, or how many new tires do you get under the agreement. You might get the tire replaced and they don't cover it because it could have been patched, or this could be counted against some limit and you didn't really need to use it. If none of this applies then I would have it replaced, but I also would not worry about a patched tire.
