Nav settings

Hi All,
I recall that my Anthem's nav had settings to adjust, turn off, etc the vocal warnings such as "speed warning" and "right curve ahead". I normally do not use the RM nav, but waze took me places I should not have been. We are in the Ozarks and there are nothing but small roads here, no main roads. I will need to rely on it to get me back to rt 44. Anyone want to walk me through this?

JMHO, but you absolutely need a copy of the Truckers Atlas in your coach. Depending on any GPS is going to get you into trouble.... and WAZE is probably the worst of the bunch for not giving a damn that you are 25 tons and 65-70' long. I NEVER use Waze for directions.... only for highway conditions, accidents, cars on the berm, alligators on the road, etc.

As much as people like to bad-mouth Rand McNally GPS in our coaches (and we always have a second Garmin GPS running simultaneously along with WAZE), but the Rand-McNally has never routed us poorly. There is a sub-menu where you can enter your length, weight, height, etc etc etc and preferences for type of road and it does an EXCELLENT job, IMHO, of keeping you out of inappropriate situations.

However, the R-M Deluxe Motor Carriers Road Atlas (get the spiral bound version = Deluxe) is ALWAYS IN OUR COACH, and it is referred to often. The most useful feature is that if a road is rated as a reasonable route for a semi-tractor/trailer (and is highlighted in yellow), then it is absolutely an appropriate route for your coach. When I am heading to parts of the country that I dont know well (particularly in the mountains), then the Rand-McNally Motor Carriers Atlas is consulted on a regular basis. It also lists low overpasses and routing problems.

I used to have a Garmin Nuvi which is a truckers Garmin. Sold it when I sold my commercial truck. I might need to get another one. That said the RM will always keep me safe, well almost always. A couple years back it took is down some crazy small roads. With that said I will rely on RM from now on, but I need to turn off the speed and curve warnings. They drive me crazy. Too, the warning curve ahead is always two turns ahead of me. Not that that's a bad thing, I just hate all the chatter. I get enough of the fro the passengers seat

Bruce now that you found the link, I should tell you that story about the waze taking me places that I should not have been did not work for me either.

My hesitation with RM is from some not so great routes it took me on in previous coaches. I guess up until this trip, I've been lucky with Waze. I will not make that mistake again.

I’m in the ”never RM”

I run CoPilot on my iPad mounted on the dashboard and
Truckers Path on my iPhone mirrored to the TV over the dashboard so DW can see where we’re headed. Neither has failed me!

I keep the RM Speed Warning on because I don’t like to speed and sometimes the warning gets me to realize the speed limit changed and I didn’t notice. .

Rick, sounds like you’ve been happy with truckers path. I’ve been thinking of using that as a backup or primary to our Garmin. I see some things about it that I really like but….
Pros and cons to the program/app?

I second Gary’s advice to keep a hard copy of the Trucker’s Atlas in the coach. We use ours often. We use two different large vehicle softwares (one is the RM) and, if the routes differ, I check both out in the Atlas before deciding which to follow. Any unfamiliar routes in the mountains gets additional scrutiny. Even if both softwares agree on a route, and it’s okay in the Atlas, I review it on Google Earth or Google Maps satellite view before we accept it. It makes for an easier trip if we know in advance what we are facing that day - big climbs, hairpin turns, small or no shoulders on road, etc. Especially with the DEF issues out there, I put more effort into making sure we are on roads that will allow a safe area to wait if we have a second failure.
