Need a salellite dish expert

I have a Winegard traveller SK-3500 satellite system. It rained this morning and I pushed the button to stow my satellite dish but nothing happened. The display on the dish controller says that there is no communications, and that there is no dish. Have checked wires, rebooted controller, checked wires on the roof. Everything seems tight. Does anyone have any ideas on what to try next. And I have a call to Winegard and am waiting for a call back.

I don't have the answer on the fix. But if you need to stow it so you can move. On the side of the turret of the dish, there is a black plastic plug. Unscrew that black plastic nut. In behind it with a 3/8 socket and a 6" extension, you can manually stow the dish.

Exact same thing happened on our 2015 Cornerstone. Moisture had penetrated the inside of the electronics. Had to do exactly as Bpeter2 said above to stow the dish. When doing so make sure it come down in the correct position as if it does not, you will not be able to drive withe the antenna up alarm going off. Hope you have a more simple problem, but Entegra did have to replace the entire satellite dish.

Had the exact problem last fall. Winegard had me check a few things but in the end it was a turret swap out. Since then everything works fine. Good luck.

Bob

Please be sure to post a follow-up post to give the rest of us the knowledge of what the resolution or the process was in case we should run into the same situation in the future.

Thanks

Bob,
If you have a volt-meter you can check which part of the dish isn't working, control board, LNB, etc.
When you do get it fixed and everything dries out...be sure to caulk the base of all the coax cables where the connector meets the wire, mine was green and corroded when I unscrewed the coax.

I received a call from the Winegard technical person at 5;30 PM EST today. She had me check several items by pushing on the buttons on the controller, then had me open the inspection plate on the front of the turret (on the roof) and check the wires on the controller cable at a connecter inside the box. The controller still had no communications with the antenna so she said that they would replace the turret under warranty. The warranty is two years on parts, and one year labor. My RV warranty expires on October 25/15 (2 yrs). Have my fingers and toes crossed hoping that this is the last item to break for a while.

I forgot to state a correction that I have the Shaw system, a SK-7003, not the one previously mentioned.

Surprised nobody mentioned a reboot. Power down the coach and restart. Or power down the control box and power injector.

The tech had me power it off, unplug, and restart a couple of times. I shortened the graphics in my description a little bit.

With lost communication it comes down to the Winegard box is bad or the cable from the box to the turret is bad or the short cable from the turret to the dish is bad or the turret is bad. Most times it seems the turret craps out.

Maybe Sicards got a couple of bad dishes. It seems that only you and I have had this happen. No-one else on this forum has mentioned that they had turret failure.

Bob,

I think the dishes were installed at the factory but we are some of the few to have a Shaw dish so perhaps that is the common denominator. Either way the dish swap out was not that bad, it only took a few hours including re-sealing the dish.

While I am on Direct TV. I did have to replace my turret only 3 months into ownership. However my problem was not communication, but an AZ motor failure. But as 757driver said, it's not hard to do. The hardest part was to figure out how to get the new turret on the roof by myself without scratching the coach.
