New issue to deal with - what next?

OK, never expected this.

Toad was rear-ended this weekend. Pretty hard too. Hard enough to push us into the car in front. Called the insurance company and filed a claim. They recommended a repair facility an hour away. I asked for one a little closer but they didn't have one listed but said I could go to almost any shop I choose.

Found one that is part of a national chain, had good reviews and a decent looking shop. Called and asked if they would work with my insurer and no problem, bring it over. Dropped off the car and filled out the paperwork. Told them I needed it soon, it is my toad. No problem. They would call the insurance and have an adjuster come out for the inspection.

Adjuster called today and said he looked at the car and so far about 7-8 thousand in damage, and it is fixable. But he has bad news. Oh? The shop declines to repair this Jeep?!?!

I asked what the issue was. He said they will not work on modified cars. I asked what modification? He said, and I verified it, we will not repair a vehicle with receivers in the front for towing. I asked why not? Answer - too much liability for them? So, looking for another shop.

Ever heard of such a thing?

Can you just remove the baseplate while they have it? Put it back when they're finished.

Good luck.

Take care,
Stu

There are plenty of auto collision shops, find another one.

Might be a blessing in disguise. It could be the shops way of saying their work is not good enough to be towed without falling apart.
Glad the toad was not connected to the MH, that could have been very expensive and harder to find a shop to do the repairs.

Got a new shop this afternoon, and I feel better about this shop. Great CS so far.

Stu - the issue with them is it requires a new front fascia. It has to be cut to allow the recievers to protrude thru. Their franchisee will not allow them to modify factory replacement parts. Claim too much liability on their part.

Moving on! Thanks for the words of encouragement.

Thank you for the update they are important for those who may do a search of the subject in the future.

You can thank our litigious society for that.
