New name on the Dish CS hit list

I installed my Dish receiver today. Followed what Winegard said and got an error code so called Dish. The $19.99 or $29.99 plan with HBO, Cinemax and Starz for 3 months became $49.99 without any premiums. Then they tried to say I had to pay $10/month more for HD! Round and round finally demanded a supervisor that speaks English! Got HBO for 30 days and HD but now I'm sure my file has a big red "A" on it for [ Moderator Edit ]!

I will, after the fact, follow the recommendations and call Dish and ask to be sent to the RV department tomorrow.

DishformyRV.com was $39!

Sorry to hear of that problem. I have never heard of any of that Sat companies being easy to deal with, especially with RV accounts. Nobody there knows what RV accounts are. Sure sorry to get "pay as you go" turned on was such a hassle.

I guess having Dish at home and turning on the MH receiver when we leave is going to stay in the Anthem. I was thinking of switching to Direct for the football package, but now I am having seconds thoughts after your post, I don't want to go though all of that again.

Dish CS

TXBart

I have to say, I've run into this myself. Before anyone dog piles on and says get DirectTV, I respond get "pay as you go". The Dish CS is a necessary evil to live with Dish. If you happen to buy your SAT setup on a Friday or Saturday then call 1800 dish corporate you end up talking via a phone switch to somebody in a foreign call center. They only know the answers to the 10 or 20 questions somebody wrote out for them. If you call Mon-Fri and call the RV service number you talk to one of a handful of no kidding Americans in Denver, CO. This summer I moved around quite a bit and got to to know a couple of them by name. I'd call to switch the local channels to that area and the lady would say..."you were in Colo Spgs last week, now how do you like Santa Fe?". The people at the RV number for Dish are waaaay better. I only call that number. Unfortunately on weekends it rolls over to the big Dish phone que.

Dave, again your post is a wealth of information. I have saved that number in my cell phone and will never loose it again. Again, thank you for very informative posts.

This used to be the case for me, too. The last 3 times I called, the quality has fallen there. The first time, they changed my service address, but forgot to change my locals. I had to call back a second time. No big deal, people make mistakes.

The next time I called, they needed my 4-digit code, phone number (I guess they can't afford caller ID), billing address, current service address, and the serial number of my receiver. Not only did I change my service address, but I now have the nuclear launch codes.

The last time I called, a couple of days ago, after they identified me as an RV account with my phone number and 4-digit code, they were confused as to why I was changing my service address. They were all set to send me a Dish mover pack, when I reminded them a second time that I was an RVer.

The last couple of times I called that number, they answered the phone as the 'resolution department'. I think Dish may be repurposing it to something else.

For that reason, I don't even call for locals unless there is no park cable or no antenna channels. We are rarely in one place long enough for the trouble. Those that stay parked for the season(s) it might be a different need.

I guess we don't need to go into Direct vs. Dish since at any given time or on any given issue, either one can exhibit extreme self-destructive capabilities.

My only comment is that the idea of calling any of these "services" including Verizon on a weekend or a late night qualifies as idiocy.

We had Dish HD for life and all of a sudden we did not have HD. After talking with them, they wanted to charge $10.00 per month for HD. After some discussion with a manager, we got the HD back at no additional cost.

Then they would not let us have an upgrade on equipment that we wanted...full price fro the new receiver. No option for a new 2 year contract.

Called Direct and got new equipment then called Dish to cancel. All of a sudden they could give us the new receiver......tooooooo late, we were GONE.

Still getting emails offering these great deals.....toooo late.

Be warned, also, about pay as you go - if you turn it on, but have a credit on your account from the last time it was active, but it isn't enough to cover the $39.99 charge, you will get disconnected again within days if you don't pay enough to cover the whole month. I went round and round with them this past summer over that. They wouldn't ask me to "plus up" the account when I called, so I didn't know about the issue. Went out, but we were parked in an area that I couldn't get a sat signal. No biggie, not their fault. Move later, try to get service, nothing. Call in - my account is suspended due to non-payment! (Mod Edit)? No bill, no call, nothing. You have to pay them before they send you a bill telling you to pay them...

Something to keep in mind - always make sure you have a credit of at least $40 when you call to activate your service or you will be on the phone with them within 10 days wondering why your service is out.

The number Hogdriver gave no longer ensures an English speaker. I asked the female that answered if this was the RV department and all she would say was she could help me with any issue.

I'm still not convinced I got the best package; "America's 120" with no contract and no premiums for $49.99/month. None of the Dish people have been very helpful offering any options.
