We stay outside of the parks in Private RV Parks and drive into the National Parks. Most National parks we don't fit and that was at 38 ft. The ones we did fit in, we had to make reservations a year in advance during summer tourist season. Heck, I don't know where I am going to be tomorrow not alone a year from now I think in 10 years of traveing we have only stayed "inside" of one National Park and that was Grand Tetons on a boondock site. Lots of large sites, but no hookups.
Most of the National Park campsites were built during the depression when the CCC camps were building Govt supported jobs. Not much need for large MH sites with full hookups in those days. A few have modernized, but they are the first to fill up. We visit National Parks, but never plan our trip with the intentions of saying in the park. There are always lots of nice RV Parks outside of the National Parks.
We have also found that Google Earth is our best friend to tell if a State Or National Park has campsites large enough for us. We have also found some "hidden gems" of State Parks from Google Earth.

To me, boondocking is one of the great joys of these coaches. Between the generator and the inverter(s), all your electrical needs are met. With a little water conservation, you can easily go a week on your water supply, two weeks or more if you are careful. This gives you the freedom to stay anyplace you will fit, with no hookups whatsoever. That's freedom to me!
I stayed in Grand Teton NP for five days in September, no hookups, and used less that 25% of my water. With plenty of fuel in the tank, I probably could have stayed three weeks. All the while I had all the comforts of home, including satellite TV. Freedom!

X2 and why we ordered the solar panels on the Entegra. If we fit, we don't need hookups, after all we are "self contained".
We have found some OUTSTANDING County parks in our travels with many of them only having 30 amp service, no water or sewer at the sites. Never had a problem staying there and usually not full becasue people think they need full hookups.

Chuck, what are you able to run with the solar panels? How do they work on the rv if there are no hookups?
Also, if I get a used Anthem is it easy to add solar panels?
Thanks, Tom

I won't be able to run anything with the solar panels, they just help to keep the batteries charged. The six AGM batteries are converted into 110v that run the refrig, TV's etc. I don't have the Anthem yet, but others say the 200 watt panels don't do much, but I can't say. Anything that helps keep that batteries charged is OK with me. Solor panels can be added with no problem. There is a post going on now about solar panels that BigMoney just added complete with some nice pictures and some good discussion about solar.
I am one that doesn't have a problem running the generator when it's needed. That is what is is for, I even use it going down the road.

I can get by with one tank of water but the grey water tank has to be drained on even a three day weekend at the race track for me. I guess at a NP you could shower in the campground bathroom but I have gotten spoiled to showering in my own home away from home. I talked to a guy the other day with a Bluebird. 200 gal. Fuel and 100 gal. each of grey and black water..........no slides though.

A little short piece of sewer hose makes it easy for a night time trickle of the gray tank if parked on the right type of ground.

I would never do that. You know me better than that.......LOL. I have a few stories about this I will tell you some day. Thank God for sandy soil at Hallett Motor Racing Circuit. We camp there for four to five days for the NASA Summer Shootout every June. Four or five of us in the coach. But remember I never dump grey water unless I'm hooked up.
I saw a sign out in the middle of the Nevada desert saying $500.00 fine for dumping grey water. I never understood why. Nothing growing within 200 miles.
Seriously though running out of grey water room can be a problem for dry campers.

This is why I like that the bathroom sinks drain into the black tank on Entegras.
Navy showers take only a gallon or two, makes the gray tank go longer.

Crazy isn't it? I spray and spread my yards with more "legal" pollutants in a year than my gray tank will ever see in it's lifetime.
