New Toad 2019 Wrangler Unlimited!!!

After 2 years of hemming and hawing, we've finally replaced our TOAD!

Old TOAD was a 2010 Jeep Liberty. Best car we ever had, which is why we kept it so long.

New one is a 2019 Wrangler Rubicon in Mojito!

We've decided to go with a basic Blue Ox baseplate setup.
We have a Ready Brute Elite Towbar and will use it's braking system.

I'll bet a bunch of you have JL Wranglers, please impart some knowledge about available hopefully mostly plug n play lighting kits (I use a flat blade 7 pin on both ends of our cable)

Real world info on hooking up / running the cable for the Ready Brute braking system would be way appreciated!

Pretty snappy lookin’ Ride! We have a 2017 JKU Sahara.
I can only tell you after going the after market route on wiring, my Jeep dealer had me switch out to the Jeep/MOPAR wiring harness for flat towing. I was getting intermittent power loss issues. Now everything is fine.
I too, use the RBE tow bar set up. Not too bad to install.

We use the Ready Brute system with a plug and play wiring harness from E-Trailer on our 2015 Wrangler. Easy install on both. There are install videos on Youtube, very easy to follow after watching a couple of times. Stop and tailight power comes from the RV so no draw on the Jeep batt. Did 3100 mi. early this year and no issues.

Thanks Tom. I ordered the mopar harness. Damn thing is pricey, but I'm sure it will fit and work. Don't need any electrical gremlins!

I installed the Mopar harness for my 2018 Jeep Wrangler. THe IKEA like instructions really suck though. Let me know if you do it yourself, there are a couple of shortcut videos out there I can point you to.

One more thing. I met a few JKL owners last summer that were flat towing. One guy told me he kept killing his battery. There are a boatload more electronics on your model than mine.
At the time, I had a cheapo battery disconnect on my set up thinking it was smart to do. Not necessary in my case but since you are going with the Jeep harness, you might want to check with your dealer.
Once installed, I love the set up.
As an aside, I initially followed those vids. I have no issues with the electric components(Hopkins, e-Trailer) recommended, or the companies, I may have had a faulty set.

First off, if you already have the tow package on your Jeep, running the harness will be a pain! The flat tow harness runs in the same space.

Instructions say to remove rear bumper, you only have to remove the bumper cover, easier and lighter, see this video: https://youtu.be/6veBI3rXBSw

Instructions also say to remove right front inner fender. It is way easier to remove the whole fender as one. See this video: https://youtu.be/XC5S0HjfkQw

You will need two people to run the harness through the firewall.

Good luck and let me know if you have any questions.

Ray

Thanks Ray!

OK. Baseplate is done. They could do a better job on the safety cables, hope they don't rattle, wife would kill me.

Ready Brake and wiring next.

Fedex brought the mopar wiring kit just before lunch. It seems pretty involved. Directions are beyond horrible, though they might make more sense if I could read french. I'm still trying to figure out why they want me to take the rear bumper off?
The tail lights just "pull" off? seems weird. I think I'm going to need a utube video.

Hmmm....this mopar kit seems to be setup to go all the way to the RV...
I might like that. Did anyone do it that way?
Thoughts?

I did the Demco base plate, very easy install. Using Demco Air Force One Brake system.

Bumper comes off for license plate light connection and harness routing.

What writing was in my instructions was in English/Spanish. Can send you a PDF if needed.
