Newbie winterizing/power questions
Hello- I just winterized our 2013 Aspire DLQ, and the manual says it is ok to run the Aquahot system even after draining the freshwater and putting in RV antifreeze throughout the system. Can anyone confirm this is correct? It's getting into the 20s here this week so I was thinking about running the generator a little while tonight to heat up the coach and basement just to be safe.
Also, is a 110v hook-up sufficient to run fridge/Aquahot? We're visiting relatives and dry camping a few days, although we can plug in to a 110v outlet. I have a 110v adaptor for my coach power cord but have not used it yet.
Thanks for your help!
Andy

Andy,
You can run your generator but its not necessary. You Aqua hot will run plugged into 20 amp circuit.
I'm in upstate NY and its already in the low teens at night. I pave my coach plugged into 20 amp circuit. I have my Aqua hot electric burner set to on. My thermostat (in the bathroom) set to heat, I have zone 1 and zone 3 set to 45 and zone 2 (in-floor) set to 60. I have the basement heat set to 70. These are instructions from Entegra CS. Set the temp to your needed but set the temps with these spreads so everything will work the way you want it. If the in-floor is set the same zone 1 and 3, zone 2 won't heat sufficiently the way you want it to.
Also, you may have access to 110 when you are visiting relatives but the question you want to ask them is, what is the amperage of the circuit? 15, 20? You will need 20 to run your Aqua hot electric burner. If you use LP, then the 15 amp will be ok for all else. You just can't turn on the fire place on a 15 amp circuit. You will beed to do some rotating on a 15 amp circuit depending what you are doing.

Also, if running your Aqua hot on the electric burner and on 20 amps, check to see that the GFCI next to your thermostat in the basement hasn't tripped. The red light will be on it it has, just hit the reset button.

I have "15 amp" service available where I store to coach. So, if I am confident no breakers will trip, I should be able to set up the heaters the way you say and not winterize the coach for the couple below freezing days we get in North Texas?

I tried my Aqua hot on the settings above on a 15 amp circuit and the circuit breaker kept tripping. Of course in the you, there are light also on this circuit. Once I moved to a 20 amp circuit, no issues.
I like to do "belt and suspenders". I have my coach setup like above but I also have my coach winterized with the pink stuff. Since I use mu coach during the winter months to go South, I de-winterize it and head south. When I'm back home, I winterized it again until the next trip.

If your coach is parked outside, use the Aqua Hot in diesel or propane mode and you should be fine on a 15A breaker. You may have to wait until your battery charger gets to float mode or your charger may draw too much.

I could be making a mistake but I just leave my aqua hot on leave fresh water in and just have the t-stats on low which is all you need to keep pipes with fresh water in them from freezing. Our power is very reliable so no worry's there but if you are in an area that are subject to power failure and it gets pretty cold-- then think you're doing the right thing to either blow out your freshwater line or put in the anti- freeze. I personally don't like the taste of it and guess it really doesn't take too long to get it out but I'd walk a crooked mile to avoid it.
Hope this helps

If you have an AquaHot don't simply blow out the lines. If you don't like the pink stuff you can reduce how much you use. Blow out the water lines and then blow a couple cups of pink stuff through the hot water lines. The heating coil in the AquaHot could catch the small amount of water left behind after blowing out the lines.

Thanks all for the replies - all very helpful. I'm going to hook up to a 15amp supply today with your recommended settings and see if we trip anything. Left the generator running last night so no problems with 24 degrees outside - coach was plenty warm this morning!
Really appreciate all the help, and especially so quickly!
Thanks again,
Andy

I wouldn't think it necessary to leave the gen on. You have some time even if you have a power failure, If your aqua hot is up to temp and power fails there's enough heat stored in it to keep everything above freezing for the night. Also even in 24 degree weather these units are fairly well insulated. If you are checking it every day for the first few days till you know the power is going to stay on --you'll be ok.This is what I have found to be true in my case -- every one has to do what they feel most comfortable with.

Your's is a good idea to minimize the use of antifreeze, but Like I said "I'd do a lot of other kind of work to avoid putting chemicals in my drinking water" It's generally believed the anti freeze intended for use in potable water systems it ok-- but who really knows. I for one will avoid it and either keep enough heat in to not worry about freezing or do a thorough blow out-- people have done that for years with no problem. I'm fortunate in that my unit is stored inside when not in use-- so minimal heat is required. Also the mh serves as our emergency back up if there is a emergency of some kind for us. That means that I do change out the water every so often to keep it fresh and ready for such a use. Also we're propelled to maybe take a weekend outing that we might not other wise do/win-win?
