Night shade fun

Ok, front night shades have gone stupid and refuse to retract. Have tried recycling the power master switch to no avail. Looks like they might have over-extended. Any help from the forum? Any ideas?

Tried all of the above to no avail. The control pad is acting hunky now not always turning a load on/off with first punch....thinking a defective pad? Or can you reboot the pad?

Both of our day shades on the front windshield quit working. Both of the motors were bad and had to be replaced.

Looks like the keypad itself may have gotten zapped by static electricity. And yes , apparently a finger zap can cause it to lose its mind, or completely lose its programming. Huh, who would have thought!!!?

Now I am curious. Are all of the touch pads dead or just the front shades not going up? Did you have a static spark jump to the switch?

yes, my DW tells me it must be my electric personality, haha. The touch pad itself is not dark, but some of the pads/switches are not responding normally, and the one for the night shades is not working at all, but is still lighted. In speaking with Entegra support yesterday, a static 'finger-spark', or arc, can possibly damage the pad or an individual membrain/switch, these things are pure mini-computer on a network. Tried a couple of things the factory recommended to no avail as well, so it does apear the entire touch pad is now goofy. They have to get a new one programmed before a replacement can be sent....quite an ordeal for an on-off switch!!!

That is good information to know when traveling in dry climates. Here in the humid south we don't think of things like that, but I can remember living in Colorado, with low humidity, where a static spark would jump an inch. I think I will also keep my throw rugs to a minimum on the tile floors. Please keep us informed how that works out. Sure sorry you are going through it.

I used to work in the hi tech industry. Have seen evidence that a person shuffling their feet across a carpet or even dry floor or the right synthetic clothing will generate enough voltage to jump an arc several inches. That's thousands of volts! So over the years many manufactures have learned to put protection in their electronic devices to keep them from getting ruined by this static electricity. My computer will still go dumb if I scoot my chair and then touch the key board right away. I have learned to touch my desk first then the key board. So this manufacturer has a little work to do to make his product static proof, I'd say. You can help yourself by remembering not to touch the pad when you first reach for it but rather touch the cabinet or surface it's mounted on first then move your fingers to the buttons. I usually can reboot the computer and it's ok, maybe if you pull the fuse to your curtain system it too will reboot and be ok, I'd try that.
Hope this helps.
Loren

I had to replace a switch panel that went bad, and it was not from static electricity. I really dislike these multiplex switches. In addition to reliability problems and potential high replacement/repair costs, they are inconvenient to use. Who wants to get off the sofa and walk halfway through the coach just to adjust a light that is right behind me or over my head? I long for the old switch-at-every-appliance type mechanical switches.
