NY EZPass
How does EZPass work with DP w/ tag axel and a toad? Did anyone up grade from an original ez pass standard tag to one for the DP and the toad?

You just need to upgrade your pass for the tag axel. The ez pass reader will account for your toad when you're towing it

I have the NC quick pass/ez pass. $7.40 one time charge and it’s good anywhere East of the Ms river including Fl and Ga.
I have two of the transponder one for the Mh and one for the toad. I take the one out of the toad when towing. However, a friend just got one and he transfers it between Mh and toad. Either way works just make sure all your vehicles are listed.

I have an Indiana EZPass on the coach. Readers count axles, so if I am towing toad, it will read 5 axles and bill accordingly. Have a separate EZPass for toad that I take down and out it in foil packet to keep from reading it when I am towing it.

Us too after having multiple ( Ma EzPass, Florida & Peach Pass ) and IMHO the NC is the way to go and you don't have to be a NC resident.

We have a NY EZ Pass. If you provide a copy of your registration you will not be charged truck rates but rather auto rates. Substantial savings and there is no charge to get the NY EZ Pass. When you have a toad, you will remove the EZ Pass from the toad and put it in a foil container to keep it from being read by the toll booth.
It is our understanding that we can also get a separate EZ Pass for when we are towing. We are in the process of researching that at the moment but I have been told that you get a separate EZPass which will not charge you for the toad.

Jim,
Make sure you check with them about the different EZ Pass for your rig when towing. I would check with them to make sure my information was correct that there is a separate Pass for RV's with toads.
As a side note, the NC Pass is supposed to be good for both EZ Pass and SunPass toll roads which may make a difference for you being in Florida.

I did some looking at the NY recreational rate for EZ pass awhile back. If I'm not mistaken it only applies to NY residents / registrations but could be wrong?
Worth a check for sure as the commercial rates are higher and you pay it for all axles including the toad.

You don't need to be a NY resident or have NY registration, but you might need to explain your registration receipt if it's from another state. It took me 3 months to get it right on our former DP (for a 3 axle coach and 2 axle toad, my notes say it's an ivory transponder for coach only and a blue for coach plus toad). NY kept sending me a car-only transponder...
When we got our new coach, I could not convince them that the original title receipt was in fact the registration as well (despite the paperwork saying so). They kept rejecting it saying it was only a title application, not a registration receipt. I was never able to get the MHM or MHM-towing Thruway discount plan for the new coach.

The MHM and MHM-towing discount applies only to the Thruway, not other tolls in NYS. You are charged standard EZ-pass rates for all other tolls (5H for a 3 axle coach pulling a 2 axle toad).

If you are crossing NY state, instead of I-90 avoid the toll altogether by using the Southern Tier Expressway (I-88/I-86). No tolls, better scenery, much less traffic, some nice attractions along the way and only about 20 miles longer than I-90.
