Ocala NF and Tampa

We are heading to Tampa to our first show with the Entegra owners group. After a few nights in South Georgia SPs we would like to check out Ocala NF CGs but reservations aren't available on line. Does anyone have experience camping there that time of year? Are there first come sites likely to be available for 45's? Thanks and Happy Holidays!

Yes, try Wilderness rv park, silver springs Fl. Surrounded on three sides by the "NF". There are 3 Anthems there now, including us. See you in Tampa.

Even I learned something from this post. I've lived here 27 years and the first I head of Ocala having a National Forest with Campgrounds. https://www.fs.usda.gov/activity/oca...camping-cabins

Looks like a lot more fun than staying at Ocala Cummins

Oh, OK, that's what NF means? FreshAir is right.... sometimes you just have to spell it out.

Now that I know what it means, yes, I spent 3 delightful months in Ocala/Silver Springs our first "winter" in a coach where I got the chance to meet Ditto (above) and a bunch of Ditto's friends. Very nice place and nice people. It might be adjacent to the National Forrest, but not in the National Forrest itself but you got to drive through the National Forrest to get to Gainesville for a nice trip or two. Actually, not sure if this is what you wanted to know, but the Wilderness RV Park is a very nice place with very nice people and has all the services.

Dee and I generally have avoided state and national parks since so few of them are really equipped to handle coaches the length of our Entegras.... Some of them are, but it is like some bureaucrat decided in 1973 that their areas should all say that they can't handle anything longer than 37 feet or so, and that is what is up on their web pages and no one has ever decided to change the length restriction, but if you actually go, they can easily accommodate our coaches.... I have found the bigger problem is sometimes the roads are terrible or the trees are not trimmed high enough, etc., so we have just stopped trying to get into national forrest and state parks in most cases.

Thanks, I will try Wilderness. Sorry for the shorthand, if you type as slow as I do abbreviations are a good tool.

Our biggest concern in purchasing our Entegra was the ability to camp in SPs, NF and Core of Engineer CGs. They are less expensive but the big reason we enjoy them is the environment they offer and the much larger and more private sites in most locations. We were very pleased to find numerous parks out west this year that worked well for our 45'. Our favorite was a NF (Red Cliff, national forest) just 7 miles south of Big Sky, Mt. We had a site with the Gallatin river running thru our backyard, loved it. Also many SPs in Oregon, Ga. NC. Tx, Ms and others we have stayed in successfully.

Agree with you Mike...last summer we stayed two weeks at the COE campground at Fort Peck MT, loved the peace and quiet with miles of biking/running trails and the dam (largest earthen dam in the world) and the Fort Peck Interpretive Center offers great exhibits. Biggest problem we've had with FL is getting reservations but sure you've experienced that as well. Got into Gamble Rogers Park (at Flagler) for a few nights and it was great for beach walks too.

I believe only Salt Springs in Ocala NF has RV hookups and you can make reservations there. Try the Reserve America site.

None of the National Forest Campgrounds in Ocala NF honor a senior pass. Apparently the government contracts management to an outside firm and they will not give a discount.

EDIT: See this link:

If you call Wilderness ask for The Preserves.
