Okay - What is it???

Tonight I decided to open up the awnings. While in front of the Vega-Touch screen opening the front awning I heard a ping noise and then something metal hit the ground. Stopped the opening of the awning and found the enclosed part on the ground.

It's 8.75 inches long with a hole in one end and something on the other end that looks like its used for a possible adjustment.....

Oh, by the way, the awning still opens and closes, but looks as thought one end sits a lot lower than the rear awning.

Anybody know if there's some sort of drawings out there for the Girard awnings?

I think that is a rod that goes with your Girard awnings that can be used on a electric drill to manually retract your awning.

I'm not sure, still researching.

If that is a manually retracting Rod I never received one, or it flew out along the highway sometime during delivery. I will be interested in hearing what it could be. I thought maybe it was something that was used during the shipping process that the factory may have wanted to dispose of not sure now.

Sorry - Something crashed in the middle of my post earlier. Yes - this is the rod used to manually bring in the awning. Apparently Entegra forgot to remove it from my awning during the build. It's taped to the inside of the awning for shipping. This is what I learned from CS. Everyone should have one. Going to check my other awnings tomorrow and make sure that there are no more....

To my knowledge I do not have one. Perhaps RV one threw it in the trash. Hope not, I am hoping it was just an oversight. We will see. I will be calling customer service tomorrow .

We have a Carefree Apex which is a forerunner of the Girard. Looking at page 30 of our instructions it appears that we should have gotten that piece that the OP showed

Chuck the 7mm hex key into a 3/8” battery powered drill
I'll get hold of Carefree and see if they still have them.
Thanks for the info!!

Nothing in my black bag / box. Entegra CS never mentioned that I should have got one in my bag. They just told me what it was and it should have been removed during the building of my coach.

Paul

In your original post, you raised another issue, but I think that it is unrelated to your main concern. You mentioned that your awnings are not nicely straight when out and there is an offset between the end of one and the beginning of another (or something like that). This may be wrong, but this has been discussed before, and the consensus was that this is by design, and it is designed to do that to help shed water from the awnings if they are out in a rain. If you have not experienced this already, these awnings are not good at shedding rain anyhow and your awning can begin to collect water and I have had to help my awnings dump water by pressing up on the cloth to force the water to not pool.

I believe that it is true that you really are not supposed to leave the awnings out in a rain as you may well end up with a real problem with pooling and collection of water. I pull my main awnings in if I think there is any possibility of rain... the only one I feel comfortable leaving out is the door awning which seems to be able to handle serious rain when it is out.

PS: I never got that rod either in the box or anywhere else and would be that it is lying on the ground with a lot of others at MHS
