Once Again…Amazed at Entegra - Rant

Going to rant here….obviously, Entegra builds coaches using many OEM parts. Unlike cars, for which there are hundreds of thousands on the road 10 years after a new purchase; thus it is hard for there to not be spare parts.

It seems like every time I call Entegra for a spare part or source, I get the “…we no longer use that part. It is unavailable…”. HOW CAN YOU USE OEM FOR MOST EVERYTHING AND NOT REQUIRE OEM PROVIDERS TO MAINTAIN A SUPPLY OF THE PARTS SOLD TO ENTEGRA.

Now I’m not so stupid to assume that you can require parts supply be maintained for 50 years…but with cars and trucks there almost always a source for years, even if it is a junk yard.

So, having been told by Entegra parts this standard “not available anymore”, does anyone have a source for replacement screen doors. I’m not talking screen or latches…but the door frame total. I think over time the probably don’t respond well to coach flexing during leveling and get bent. I doubt I’m the only person whose door catches miserably on the striker pin. Help?!

I have no idea what your door latch looks like. On our gasser, when that happens, I loosen the strike plate screws slightly and open and close the door. That allows the strike plate to slide into the correct position.

Then I tighten the strike plate mounting screws.

But after doing that a few times I finally took a Dremel tool and slightly, and I do mean slightly, enlarged the slots for the pins on the strike plate

Problem solved.

If you look at the top and bottom of the latch pins and see wear, that's how I knew what to do.

Perhaps something like that could work on your door.

The screen door, not the latch.

Call Xtreme paint and Graphics in Nacogdoches, Texas. They can make or repair any body part on a Fiberglass coach.

Sorry, I misread "door frame".

TX…that’s what Entegra offered. However, the “part number” they gave ended in “NLA”; assuming that means no longer available. Called them prior to their closing; closed on Friday, left early on Thursday ; no joy this week!

Dave I hate to say it....it gets worse. I just went through the 4 year old Xite dash unit, no longer reparable or available. Thankfully the new one fits the holes, but at 3 time the price.

Does the door manufacture have one available or have they been bought out by Lippert like many others, that keeps nothing around when they purchase an RV vendor.

Not bought by Lippert. A Monday through Thursday outfit; that said, called PLT Engineering yesterday. Evidently Friday off starts at 1PM on Thursday.

We were at the Entegra Homecoming last week and PTL Engineering was kind enough to adjust our door. Hopefully, they will be able to fix your issue.

Agree with try to work with PTL. They might have something that will work for you.

If PTL can’t help you I would try bontragers.com. (269) 483-7017

They are an RV parts surplus outfit and have doors and things like that. They are located about 30 minutes north of Entegra plant. Worth giving them a call.

Thinking out loud here….
I will assume your exterior door is square to the opening and working properly.
Guessing you also put a square to check the screen door.
I know I’ve suggested this before about finding a metal fab shop about the window, but if you can bring in the door to a shop, they can break, true up, and re-weld. I wonder if your screen door hinges are true but guessing you have looked at all that.
If you are in the Madison area this summer, I know a shop that can do it.

Honestly, even if a specific manufacturer goes out of business, the parts are usually made by someone or another piece can be easily adapted. Typically, all the parts are common between manufacturers.
