Part time OTG 16,000 use

For those that part time and have an OTG 16,000 water softener:

Do you drain the water softener between trips? We often have 1-3 months between trips, 7 months between last 2. ;-)

I leave mine with water in it and cap both openings. Then when I am ready to use it again, I flush it by putting incoming water into the out flow side, then recharge it with salt. Always seems to work well for us.

I also drain mine and regenerate before the next trip. I did forget one time......I won't forget again.

I use the coach air to blow most of the water out of the OTG when we return. Just loop the 3 foot connector hose back to the inlet side to keep things sealed up. I carry the OTG home and regen it with the house softened water for the next trip. Blowing the water out just makes it a lot lighter to carry around, BTW.

There's a page on their site that gives instructions for draining and storing, and sanitizing down near the bottom.

That is an excellent "how to" site and one I enjoy re-reading from time to time. They have made updates in the past. Using bleach before storage is something new they have added since I was last on the site and something I have never done. That would explain funky tasting water if you forget to regenerate before use after storage. Been there on that one.

Thanks for all the information, I believe I am going to order one of these- it looks fairly easy to set up and maintain.

We got ours through Amazon. Great price but takes a little longer than most Amazon orders.
