Passenger side back slide motor replacement

Occasionally our PS rear slide would not retract. So, being in sunny Louisiana and after reading all previous post, I finally climbed under to remove the dreaded panel. 6 bolts and it fell off. I thought this is going to be easy. Pulled the first shear pin out, and tried the front pin and it wouldn't budge. Tried using C-clamp and socket to try to push it out. Didn't move. Put a torch on it - nothing. Tried pounding it in - nope. Stating the obvious, the tension was off of it the whole time. Tried sliding the motor with pin off the square tube but it would not come. The next day i went and used a grinder and ground the pin flush then drilled the pin about half way. This did 2 things, making it easier to center punch it and maybe loosening the rust. I was then able to beat the pin out slowly. From there I thought the rest would be easy. I went to put the new motor in and one bolt would not start, so I pulled the motor back out and somebody had dropped the motor on the bolt hole oblonging the hole. Now I have to wait until Entegra parts opens sometime after the first of January to get another new motor.
Why did the motor fail?
The cover was not weather sealed. Also, there is about inch and half gap outside the sheet metal that has no weather proofing over it. They used electrical wire nuts for a house to put wire togther with no weather proofing.

Bill, That motor has been a long known weatherproof problem. They issued a TSB on the later models, but nothing on the Classics. I guess they figured if we got 10 years out of them, we did good. Some of the later models were failing the first years. Sorry it was such a hassle getting the motor out.

I keep one of these for a spare because the thought of trying to get the slides in manually is painful. I believe the pin hole needs to be drilled out a small amount.

Sometimes fast delivery is worth more than the price.

Yes they need drilled out from 1/4 to 5/16.

Back slide motor

hi, we have a 15 Aspire & I have been thinking about checking that motor. Not sure how to the plate off. Did u leave the tag tire on doing it?? Have heard u can jack up the back of the coach for more access??
We are getting tag tires in the spring so thought about doing that when they have the tire off but not sure how long it would take.
Thanks bruce

No, just put the rear jacks all the way up and took about 6 self tapping screws. Some have said the plate had some heavy duty sealant holding plate but ours had nothing other than a little spray foam.

That panel is almost impossible to seal, in my experience anyhow.
I went to a metal store and purchased a piece of 1/8" thick sheet metal of the same size. Then I drilled holes for the 4 screws in the same positions. I elongated the two holes for the back side so that I can remove the two front screws and just loosen the back screws a little and the new cover drops down like a hinge. Some door sealant all the way around and it is a perfect cover.
Now I can inspect and tighten the motor mounts in about 5 minutes

Hello all

Can someone add a photo of the area where the motor is located?

Best

Motor Location

Dr.Mike,

Attached are 2 pictures identifying the location of the passenger side bedroom slide. It is just above the dual drive tires within the area of the green box. The second picture is laying down between the tag and drives looking up and taking the picture. Mine is held in place with 4 sheet metal screws identified by the green circles. I try to use that slide and the D/S large slide (45B) sparingly i.e., not at all, when traveling. (Boondocking or when spending less than 3-4 days anywhere). My thought is "One less time I use it is one more day before it breaks", minimizing my chances of having to repair it! I do have a spare motor for the large slide, but hope to leave it in the box for the next owner of my Coach.

Finally got a hold of Entegra and was told my brand new spare would not be replaced as it was outside 60 days since ordering. The motor had been packed in a single box with nothing but a little bit of bubble wrap. Check your spares carefully before storing them for that emergency. I ended up taking the motor to a local machine shop and they cleaned/straightened the threads. I added some foam spray to close the 1.5 inch gap that allowed the water in and then put silicon between the sheet metal and frame. Then put the wires together with heat shrink splices.

Not all are on passenger side. Whichever side the vanity slide is on will be the side for that motor. The W floor plan for one is on drivers side.

I move the vanity slide the least as well just trying to extend the life of it. If we are going to put one bedroom slide out for a quick night in a parking lot or when the coach is on my driveway we move the bed slide. Bed slide gives more room and is easier to access the motor if needed.

Now when we camp week after week we put all four slides out but I agree to minimize that slide moving when it is not needed.

Thanks for the picture of the location. I get nervous working on anything on my coach that causes me to depend on the coach jacks to access something. But I know that’s just me.

As far as not driving in the rain I don’t have that mastered yet. Someday maybe.
