Pre delivery dead def head

So the dreaded def head crapped out on my 21 cornerstone. I haven't even taken delivery yet! That was planned for Monday 10/28. Todd indicated that it was toast. So much for generation 6 curing the problem. Todd did say that Spartan was shipping one overnight to Atlanta.

I recall "other" problems being discussed after replacement this board? Will try and search and see.

This is not good. I was really hoping the gen 6 would be the answer.

Bruce,

Better they find it on the lot prior to you taking delivery, maybe Spartan should begin to ship their chassis's with a spare DEF head attached so when the time comes, which it seems will happen, there would be minimal down time.
Congratulations on your 21, enjoy it when you get it!

I asked NIRVC to order me a spare. I'll push Spartan for a freebee

It looks like were right back to square one. Yours didn't even have a 1,000 miles on it yet. I hate new government regulation that there is no fix for. I wish the manufactures would go back and tell the EPA, they DEF condition reading sensors DON'T work, put the old one back in. Much easier to repair bad DEF run in a coach than sensors that break in a 1,000 miles leaving people stranded.

I had a Gen 6 installed after a failed trip attempt a few weeks ago. Had the telltale 3 errors that determine a bad head and a full Def tank that read empty. New head was fine and I made my way up to my NY house from the Florida one and parked it a few days. Went to start and bam.....Check Engine/empty Def although 3/4 full. This time only one error, 1761 (tank level). Called Spartan and was told to bring to a Cummins center. Only suggestion was to try shaking the tank??? So after realizing that was a foolís errand, I headed out to Cummins. On the way out of my driveway I hit the brakes hard a few times and guess what.....error gone and Def gauge returned to normal. I guess that is how you shake the tank.....who knew?

Shake the tank....guess the next gadget they will install inside the def tank will be a "shaker", to begin the shake when the key is turned on.... - or with the new ones, when the dash button is pushed, wait 30 seconds for the shake, then start.

Edit: - cant wait to see the new dash light that illustrates the tank shake!

Haha. That was my thought as well! Or maybe a round def tank with air wings that spin it!

Todd got it done, and per my request did an extended test drive. No runs drips or errors.

Among many great people who are part of National Indoor RV Centers (NIRVC), Todd is one of my absolute favorites. A man of relatively few words, but he makes 'em count.

When we were up in Charlotte, MI earlier this month Spartan told us the previous owners of our rig had to get towed due to DEF Head issue, but now we have Ver 6 so all better. After reading this thread, I am obviously concerned and my confidence shaken.
