How do you stop your slides while driving down the road? Is your air brake switch tied into your slides?

I don't believe it to be the "norm" in other coaches. Both Winnebago and Itaska [ also a Winnebago ] both would operate the slides in both directions with the engine running. I know for a fact because I have always run the slides both directions with the engine running.

I've never had the need to test if they will open going down the road, the Winnebago's had slide locks on the front slides and I didn't test the rear.

It would be purely speculation but my guess is they were tied to either the parking brake which a lot of things in those coaches are or the gear selector.

My old classic will not move the slides with the engine running. I have to start, air up, turn off key, and retract the slides. Never checked with the engine running letting them out - will test.

Does not surprise me that some slides work with the engine running, and some don't. I'm sure this is a wiring detail and how they are finally connected.

What about extension of the slides, do you need the engine running? That is a very strange one indeed.

Don, I think she meant the slides won’t extend with engine running only retract.

Normally the slides are on an ignition lock out so if the ignition is on and the Cummins is running, the slides will definitely not extend. Its a safety feature that makes sense.

There is a spade terminal on my slide controller board with a red wire attached which reads “Ignition Sense 12vdc”. I suspect this is what provides the signal to prevent deploying the slides with engine running.
