Pulling a trailer
I'm in Cincinnati making a deal on a new Aspire (which drove wonderfully). Can someone tell me how much of an extension I have to put on a trailer tongue to be able to pull a trailer safely behind the Entegra.
Your help is appreciated

I just bought a trailer and had it built from Freedom Trailers. I think it is a 3 foot longer tongue, its not and extension. All I had to do was tell them I was pulling it behind a motor home and they new what to do they have a standard extended tongue. I am sure others do also.

With a coach pulling a trailer you want your tongue to be at least 5 ft. I pull a 30ft stacker with and extended 5 ft tongue. I have no issues at all. I have had issues in the past with a smaller trailer with a 3ft tongue.

I have a flat front enclosed trailer, but it is a normal tongue and I have no trouble towing it or backing up. I definitely did not want V-nose without an extended tongue.

DW and I are thinking about buying a 22 or 24 foot enclosed car hauler. I drove an 18 wheeler for a few years in my early 20s but the tractor was 18 foot and the trailer was 45 foot. With the RV being 45 foot and the trailer being 24 foot how does the trailer track on a tight right hand turn at an intersection? Also, we have the option of getting a 7 foot wide or 8 foot or an 8.5 foot wide hauler. What would you suggest? Thanks for your advice!!

Just to get us by for a short while, we worked a free car dolly into the deal. It's my intention to get a flat bed or possibly a enclosed trailer later down the road.
Unfortunately non of our cars can be pulled "flat" but I do have a Passat TDI that can go on a dolly.

You'll get plenty of advice on this subject but for me it's a 60" tongue, 24' long (minimum) 8.5 wide enclosed trailer for car hauling duties. This combo assures you have plenty of clearance in nearly every situation for turning & backing up. Plus you will have options on what vehicle to bring with you and some additional storage. Of course your coach has to have the necessary hp and capacity for the total weight you're adding.
Good luck with your decision and have fun, be safe, and enjoy your travels.

Going to depend upon the wheel cut of the MH you have. The dealer we bought our stacker from said he hooked a 24' trailer on 42' 60 degree cut and was able to get about 3/4 around the turn before it got close. The trailer had a 5' hitch and was 8.5 wide.
We have the 8.5 wide. I did not get an escape door as the next vehicle will not clear the door lip. I squeeze in and out but would be happy to have an escape door.

Why don't you consider modifying youR car so you can tow four down. There are lots of ways to do it, and unless you are hauling your $200,000 Maserati around with you, I predict you are going to wish you were not having to deal with the trailer every time you stop. Just MHO.

We all have different scenarios. I carry a truck, car and an off road vehicle along with bikes and other junk. In my case I went as big as I was comfortable with. I am 80 ft long and this works well for us. I dont tow this set up to all of our destinations just use it for our longer stays. I would go 8.5ft for sure and a 5ft tongue. As far as length that is up to your comfort level.
When we first got our stacker I thought it was way too big. Now years later I have it stuffed wishing I had more room.

I'll be using our rig for business so having a company car with me is a must. I guess depending on which city I'm going to and how far I travel, will determine which set up I'll take. Like I said before I'll have a dolly but I'll also buy an enclosed trailer with an escape door.
Doesn't the cars get a lot of extra wear and tear being pulled 4 down?

Reason being Gary and thanks for asking that question. We are currently towing a Ford Expedition with a drive shaft disconnect. My DW after 3 years of towing still doesn't like it. DW has a very nice 07 MB CLK 350 with low mileage (20K) convertible sitting in the garage and she would like to take it with us. We are trying to decide if it will be a lot of trouble to deal with the 24' car hauler.
Thanks again for everyone's advice
